Living in Wollongong, the forecast is looking great for a seabreeze, on Xmas Day. - Green arrows all afternoon. I need everyones help on the following.

We are having Xmas lunch at my brothers house this year. I need everyones help to find a good reason on leaving early and going for a kite. The problem I have is he is also a kiter. I know he wont be up for a kite on Xmas day. - He is a woos, and is under the thumb, if you know what i mean.

If there are enough intelligent answers he will read them and i might be in for a chance.

EVERYTHING... is D.O.W. (dependant on wind). Xmas is no exception! "yes honey, i'll be there... may be a little late if the Northerly comes in...." standard practise up here...
and clearly yer bro aint a "kiter" or he would be more committed!!!

alternative is to have xmas lunch at the beach like we do...

wind is a seemingly limited resource... get it while ya can

merry xmas...

If he is under the thumb, his mrs no doubt has already told him he can't kite on Christmas Day and the lunch is at his house so he is probably a lost cause

if you don't want to offend : only a long, elaborate lie is going to work

if you are not worried about offending : brag and boast all day about the fact you are going kiting and how good the wind will be in the arvo

There's always leftovers, and imagine how much better they will taste (washed down with a cold one or three of course) after a good kite??
The only excuse I've ever needed is "it was windy", stick to your guns and deal with the frowns, you know what they say HTFU and just do it.

stick to your guns and take Steves advice and just deal with their crap .Who really wants to get together with woosy familiy memebers anyway and their overbearing wives on the so called 'most important day of the year for family time ".
Catch up more through the year and don't do christmas anymore (like how most adult family memebers don't give each other presents anymore ).have em round for christmas in july .there nothing else on then ,its cold and it prolly won't be windy.
Just make sure its a solid seabeeze and don't rely too much on the boms forcast .looks like alot of moisture and troughs around ,there would be nothing worse than leaving and getting there and it fades out .Then you are really gonna be in the poo

Intelligent answers on seabreeze .... lol

...although StinkyPete has a good plan.

You should definitely go for a kite in the arvo ... it is a good opportunity to try and catch up with your brothers superior kiting ability.

Option 1- Buy your a brother a bit of kiting kit for a xmas present and then go try it out when the wind comes in.
Option 2- tell your brothers missus he's looking been very stressed and you want to do some thing brotherly with him.....like take him kiting.
Option 3- Pretend you won a kite harness or something in a xmas charity auction for homeless puppies (go buy yourself a present) and your keen to give it a go
Option 4- Fake a big argument on xmas day (after you've eaten) and walk out, go for a kite to relieve your stress.
Option 5- Tell the truth....

Great advice .Get him one of these or a $15 stunt kite from K mart that won't fly. You haven't spent too much on ya woossy brother ,you've both got an excuse to get out and go kiting to test the new accessory(overbearing ing wife prolly won't know what it is )you're bro will love u for it becasue you won't miss out on a sesh(If she is up to speed then maybe the cheap ****ter kite might be the go .When it doesn't fly properly you go kitesurfing instead)

Now having said all that i have basically written kiting off xmas day and xmas eve with the outlaws for years .(not because of overbearing wife or family just a way of saying thanks and earning brownie points for the other 363 days of the year that I do keep available for kiting wind depending )

If he's a good brother he will understand. If hes a kiter he will understand. If it was at your house- he would probably be looking to do the same thing as he wouldnt feel pressured to stay at home.

If its windy, go. If its not stay. Life too short to waste sitting round.

Dude got the same problem in WA. Chrissy day lookin' good and we have breaky in mornin' then late lunch at outlaws.

Can I fit in a kite between this and still keep my wife and two children happy??

I think the two concepts are an oxymoron, exist in two parallel and distinctively different universes, basically I'm fingered, so for the sake of the brotherhood of kiting, you must go.

You are our last hope...

but wait there is another...

Oh yeh, tell the truth... easier in the end and if your bro' is a true kiter her will understand.

If he doesn't, he'll get over it (he may not get over the nagging from the better half though).

have a speach prepared, something like this

" Bro, I'm single, no chance of getting a girl...not like you, you have it all. Me, my girl is out there...(pause, look to ocean) out on the ocean with the arms of the wind wrapped around me. My only christmas wish is to be the girl I love, just as yours is. I would never expect you to leave your your girl at christmas, it would break my heart. Now I'm gonna go be with my girl, wish me luck, love ya bro"

Yeah Eppo. I am unsure if he is a true kiter anymore. He has dumped me many a time, even when the wind is pumpin. I have to rethink the present i bought from Kitepower for him, and maybe donate it to a worthy charity. - Me.

... yep, everything is D.O.W (Depends On Wind).

This year may be a bust if 'you' sook out and don't go kiting, but there is always hope for next year, with a bit of conditioning!!

Start now, with every sentence, or conversation with family, friends, etc, with the ending of D O W! So when some thing like this comes up again, your off scott free 'cause you said, "D O W", and if the wind goes off, even at random times through out the year, you go kiting and all with guilt free ease, 'cause you said D O W!.

Every one will know the 'D O W' then and every one will understand, or stiff cheese 'cause its always D O W.

"sure, I can help move your couch, D O W"!

"what time is dinner love, I'll be there D O W"!

"I'd love to come for Christmas lunch, D O W"!

"the party starts at D O W"

... so, if your late or you don't even turn up, it was windy and thats it, no more excuses needs to be said!

If your a kiter, then it is always D O W

Good luck,

Robbie

Dude that is ****in gold! DOW. Can i have permission to use this. In-fact my wife actually is using this and she doesn't even know it.

You know how girls organise your social life at least two months in advance I over-heard her say to one of her friends, chris may be here, depends on the wind! No **** - just half an hour ago. Then she arranged another stupid god forsaken 'get together' with her friends, so i have to sit there and talk to the tosser husbands about anything but kiting, and she said wait for it...

I will be there, chris may or may not, depends on the wind.

DOW - is my life summarised to a single focused point of simplicity.

You should do marraige counselling!!

... man, the D O W works so good, it got the missus into kiting too, now we both use it on each other and no one gets upset (except when the other one misses out of course)!!

Simplicitly is good!!

cheers,

Robbie

ps use D O W enough and every one knows what it means!!!

Well I have lots of great answers. Thanks guys. Dow is now officially in the kitesurfers dictionary. I will be definitely be using that as a great out. I will keep you posted if I get out and which response works. All in the name of research.

Just like birthdays and anniversaries, Christmas happens EVERY year (and on a predictable date). Wind, on the other hand is so much more fickle.
Just like you have to 'make hay when the sun shines', you must also 'kite when it is windy'

The wind is a harsh mistress, whe she calls you must go. There is no other choice!

Kyteryder - your brother is a good bloke, he will let you go (but he will drink all your heineken)
But the more likely scenario will be you using 'DOH' (not DOW) when your wife says you can't go.
