I am a recent convert to the FNQ lifestyle moving from Brisbane to Cairns for work and noted there is no true reading for Yorkies Knob????

I understand the Cairns reading comes from the airport??? I have settled in Palm cove and find just walking down to the beach seems to be the best reading, but by the time i drive the 15mins to Yorkie its different?

Second question for the FNQ region...Does everyone only kite at Yorkies and 4mile beach due to Council law or can you kite at any of the Northern Beaches?

Cheers

I guess some old pole driver has to answer
Yep the wind readings are taken at the airport, our mountains and cloudy days play havoc with the wind so the conditions change from beach to beach. A couple of weeks ago I was at Holloways with no wind but could see Kites and a windsurfer at Yorkeys, frustrating. Kite anywhere where common sense says it's ok, no restrictions.
Welcome to FNQ

Welcome Ash and well said Bob, have not seen you down the beach for a while, good to hear your still kicking. The wind in the Cairns area is a fickle beast. Nothing wrong with kiting at Palm cove especially if it is your front yard. Clifton and Kewarra also have their moments more so when the wind gets some east or north in it. Variety is the spice of life so check out Holloways, Machens and the mouth of the Barron R when the wind is right. 30 minutes drive to check out some kiting spots is a small price to pay to nail a good session. Come and talk to the mob at Yorkeys for some advice, crack a beer and say hello (no apple cider though). Cheerz.

I maybe a southerner but all those Crocs sound pretty restricting to me.

Hey GDog - Thanks for the info - I have had a few sessions at Yorkies in the past week and a great session at Palm cove in the Chop/Waves across to Double island (awesome flat water spot). Any of the yorkies crew keen to organize a few Downwinders to Double island??

Yeah Ash, Double Island is a good spot on the right tide. Long way to swim though if the wind goes to pot (unless you have a boat on standby?). Wind has been extremely funky this week. Thinking another option for today. PM me your number.
