So I've been riding a twin-tip for a few seaons now, weigh 104kg and am new to riding a surfboard 6' 2" and wanting two Bandits to cover both styles of riding. I live in Sydney.

Was going to get the 9m and 12m - what would you recommend...?

As a general guide, what is the ratio of kite size for surfboard riding verses twin-tip riding. Any other large guys out there? What do you use?

BTW: will be selling my 2008 9m and 13m bandits when I get the 2009 models :)

I weigh 95 or so kg and ride a 135tt and 2 x 6'2" surfboards one 19 1/2" wide more for playing around and one 18 1/4" for more serious waves.
I chose a 10DOS as I was planning on keeping my 7.5 and 13 from last year as well, but if I was choosing a two kite DOS quiver I would probably still stay with the 10 and get a 7 or even 6 for the surfboard.
However I live in Perth and usually get stronger wind than Sydney would.
I'm guessing you are pretty much on the money with a 12-9 combo for over there but I would probably go 12-8 or even smaller as small kites are much better on a surfboard and the DOS has a great low end and go upwind so well. I'd say 12-8 DOS would be pretty much the same as 13-9 Bandit. IMO.
You can usually go a couple of meters smaller on a surfboard than a Twinny in the same conditions.

Edit: Wow I just stood on the scales - 89kg, it is amazing what two weeks holiday up north kiting everyday can do for you.... perhaps my new DOS isn't as grunty as I thought.

15kts easy these kites are grunty as i can ride the new 8m dos on a 137tt in 15kts so the surf board will be flying in a bit les than that 12-13kts

sorry for the lack of surf board experience and this probably won't be very helpful at all because it's pretty much the opposite of riding surf...

...but the small bandits have an amazingly ballsie low end, I've been well powered on a 103 x 41 wake skate (yes 103) in 20 gusting to 25 on an 08 7.5m bandit and was very surprised to be able to go upwind easily considering the lack of fins and shear lack of board size (I weigh 75kgs btw).

a point worth considering is that the bandits (08 or DOS) concentrate a lot of their surface area into the center of the kite due to the delta shape so they seem to pull harder than their size suggest, the one downside of this that I have noticed is that they react more to gusts if the kite is flow low (sub 45 degrees).

yet another excuse to post a pic... "skating the shallows", 7.5 bandit, 20kts, yes i'm wearin shoes.

Hi Guys, compliments of the season to you all.

I have a 14m Bandit Dos and am looking for a second smaller kite to make up a two kite quiver. Here is my question, 8m or 9m? I weigh 76 kg and have seen that according to the manufacturer the 8m overlaps the 14m by 4 knots. Can anyone give me the top end as well as the bottom end of the 8m and 9m respectively.

Thanks,

Saw a bloke yesterday at Brighton QLD riding a 7.5m? Bandit in less than 15 knots. Could hardly believe it.
