Looking for people interested in a group trip to Sri Lanka - Beginners to Advanced - Cheap fully catered accomodation - I was there in June / July this year - superb flat water - great downwinders - waves not great but ok and consistant wind - 15-25 kts trade wind 24/7 - check out the windguru archives for Kalpitya - I have great contacts with the guys who run the kite school/camp - www.srilankakiteschool or search Kitekuda on facebook.
Let me know if you are interested in getting a group together. If you are interested in organising your own group the guys will give great discounts for the group leader!

I was in Arugam Bay last July - It was supposed to be THE place to go for kiting - No wind at all ! - Great surf though ! I met some guys there that were raving about this place a couple of hours north of the airport - Fantastic lagoon flat water - Is this the place?

Sandy Point - as in Waratah Bay ? - My old stamping ground?
That would be the place ! Very isolated and windy as hell - It blew all day and all night - sometimes TOO windy at night - they have this Poya (full moon) tradition of sailing the lagoon and havin a beach BBQ ! Its like sailing day time but perfectly laminar wind! - We did a fabulous down winder to a place the locals call 'Dream Spot' - some windsurfers were there at the same time - Who were the guys you met at Arugam Bay ?
They would have been at Kitekuda at the same time I was - The place only opened in May last year - We were there for 4 weeks and sailed every day - was a bit light for the windsurfers on a few days but we had minimum 15 knots - Never used bigger than a 10m.
Send me a PM if you are interested Ill give you the contact details - I know last year the guys gave free accomodation and food to anyone bringing a group of eight and 50% discount for four paying customers - Full board and Accomodation last year was around $35 a day -grog extra but a large beer bottle was about $2!

No not the 'Pit' but I have been there - Sandy is my Nic.
I cant really remember the guys names - we had a couple of nights on the beer with them - They had something to do with North - evidently there is a North factory in Colombo. They were heading back to the West coast as soon as they could - Arugam Bay was disappointing for kiting - All the info on Sri Lanka said it was THE place to go. Its also about 10 hours drive across the country!
I checked the sites - Looks awesome! Im not sure I can believe the Guru archives though ! THAT windy????? The lagoon looks superb, but small - Does it get crowded?
Are you organising commercial trips across there on a regular basis? What if there is no wind - what else can you do? Surf? How is the night life?
Am definately interested in checking it out - GF will learn this summer so how is it for beginners ?

That would have been Fabio and Ralph - Fabio is a team rider with North and Ralph is the designer - They were at Kitekuda when I was there - testing the 2011 range - got to ride the Vegas and Evo protos - Super! Kitekuda is a North station - North do a lot of testing there - A couple of team riders from Best were also there Joe and Miguel.
Actually the archive doesnt do a lot of justice - wind is usually 3-4 knots stronger than indicated and we had no off days for a month - were actually hoping for some to have a rest !
I guess crowded is relative - The locals think its crowded with 8-10 kites but compared to St Kilda beach or Brighton - Forget it -Weekends were a bit full on with the local expat brigade but they were cool - the ocean is 40 meters from the lagoon! Its a perfect learning/beginners spot - The top end of the lagoon is waist deep all the way across.
No dont take commercial trips - basically I get a 50% discount for bringing four clients and a 100% discount for 8 so makes it a cheap holiday. i have 3 people wanting to go already.
No night life though - You have to travel back to Negombo (2 hours) for that - I actually liked it that way - there are only 4 double rooms so not a big set up although I think they are expanding for 2011 - They are not keen to get big though - it was a really chilled atmosphere and almost no touro's except those in camp.
