Just returned from two fabulous weeks of Kiting in Sri Lanka - Now the war is over this undiscovered gem is fabulous - Made even better by the fact that there are NO crowds - There was only our group from 'Kitekuda' on the water and a couple of locals on the weekend up from Colombo - Dont know how long this solitude will last - seems the Euros are discovering it. Probably the cheapest kiting holiday you will find anywhere - and you only need boardies and a Rashy !

I took my GF to learn, there is a fabulous lagoon of waist deep water - As safe as it can get for learning - Two guys Mischi (Swiss) and Leo (French) have started a new venture.

They not only teach raw beginners and instruct advanced sailors, they also guide fabulous ocean adventures - Highlight for me was sailing with a group of German windsurfers on a 'downwinder' - very much for advanced sailors but a great adventure.

Accomodation was really cheap, and also NOT crowded - Only 4 double rooms 200m from the beach - The two guys Mischi and Leo double as Chefs so with Swiss and French cuisine mixed with local seafood delights .................. well what can I say !

Yes mate there were - mainly big soft rolling wind swell on a reef about half a km offshore - similar to the swells you get at coronation - nth of Gero in WA - then about 4-5 kms into the trip the coast bends back to the East and you have a nice clean point wave also similar to the little bay at Coronation - we played there for about an hour - I think there are shots on the facebook page of windsurfers on those waves. Not the quality of wave at arugam bay though but you dont have to travel 11 hours to get there! The great thing was the narrow sand spit seperating the lagoon and the Indian Ocean - Perrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect flat water then walk 30 meters for ocean !
Yeah the country needs a lift but its worth the trip before it takes off too - Im heading back for a long stay .
