How is woodies,WA when the wind is more westerly like tomorrow looks?

Never been there before and keen to get down there for a sess. Is it a flat water spot?

Is it actually safe to leave your other kite sizes in the car?

cheers

Fine - it makes some of the spots more cross.

Never been there before and keen to get down there for a sess. Is it a flat water spot?

The "back" or "north" beach is flat because it is off-shore on the SW, bit more cross on the W. However, to get to it you either have to hike across the dunes (hoping there is someone there not kiting to launch/land) or sail off from the tip of the point and either sail around the groyne or walk across its narrow point. To do so, you have to be able to go upwind straight away. It's not for beginners. The south-facing spots get quite a wind chop - great fun.

Is it actually safe to leave your other kite sizes in the car?

At this time of year, when there are not many people around, no.

Cheers.

Woodies is tops, its the best place in a westerly. But do not leave anything in the car at all, ive had my car broken into while kiting there.

Cheers guys,

Yeah cruising upwind from jump off is no problem.Got my fair share of dodgy spots back home in the uk.

So where do most people kite that are into freestyle... on the north beach? I take it with the sw, if **** hits the fan, your going down wind parallel to the coast. But on a more westerly direction, at least you will hit land again eventually? ha ha

Bugga, only took the size i thought i needed to pinaroo the other day and it was the bloody wrong size as it picked right up. Damn thieves........why dont they just get a hobbie and kite. Probably selling off kites to buy spray cans or something! So in summer, with peeps walking around and more people kiting and hangin out, cars are way safer yeah?

Why cant you self land at the North beach?

At the North beach, the point wraps around into a bay (sort-of), so, the further you get into it the more cross it becomes. Thus, it depends on where you are when the **** hits. It's probably more accurate to say that the point faces a little bit NW, so, as you go along or down it gets more cross. But, yes, come off in the wrong spot and you could be in a bit of trouble. The good news is that there is usually plenty out and someone will come and tow if you wait long enough

It's where its all happening and you see some amazing boosts there.

Not so much of an issue this time of year, but on a true sw seabreeze, we have gone out when it's 20-22 knts and its blown up to 25-28 knts (+!). You are probably a lot more competent then me but I find self-landing at those speeds a bit problematic. Seen lots of dune munching - and I include myself in that (only once).

Cheers.

BMAN Just get down there and check it out for yourself. There are usually a few peeps around most days so getting a launch and some tips should be easy enough. Take plenty of water, sunscreen and don't leave any valuables in the car if you can help it.

Might see you down there Thurs-Fri.

Cheers

BMAN did you try Woodies? Be carefull some people don`t like strangers playing in their "back yard", judging from earlier topics.

Yeah, I find that attitude a bit hard to stomache. If you look at my posts you will see I've had a few 'conversations' on the matter in the surfing forum.

Makes no sense to me, the 'only locals' here attitude, where local is just someone who found it first. The 'you can only play here if you discover it by yourself'. i.e. no asking online about good spots is equally mystifying.

Cheers.

im no local but i can see why there r so many complaints about the spot.... problem being that to many kooks try there luck at the offshore side when they clearly r s*#$ at kiting, struggling to water launch, head up wind and just hav no clear idea how to save themselves if they get into trouble.....

it was just today that a guy decided to kite too close to the rocks and ended up on them screwing up his kite...

there is clearly another beach to kite on if u r inexperienced or even doubt ur kiting ability one bit!

flat water is also ideal for unhooked tricks so i would suggest that if ur idea of fun is kiting back and forward with the occasional jump go somewhere else....

however if u find u still want to annoy the local riders and go there anyway there r also things u can do to be polite such as leavig room for those who want to do the tricks and following everyone elses tack in and out and not just carving ur own way through them......

its like any other spot that is regularly kited at..... u follow the norm!!
if someone kept cumin to ur local surf spot and decided to drop in on u all the time and go drown cause they cant even swim u would get pissed off too!!!!!!
