Hey all,

I'm planning to go travelling in about 18 months or so for 18 months or so :) Mainly in South America. I do want to set up camp somewhere and just kitesurf for 2 or 3 months solid.

Just wondering if anyone has found there dream location for kitesurfing in waves. Ideally I want warm water (I hate wetsuits), epic right haders (I could handle lefts I suppose), somwhere where crowds aren't a big problem, cheap (rules out Europe, Aus or the States), and convenient. I would like internet connection, bars, and the opportunity for other social activities.

If I can paraglide and surf it would be a bonus:)

Done some research, and I have found these options as possible:

Dominican Republic (Caberete) - heard it is dirt cheap. Saw a 1 bedroom appartment for USD$240 a month!! Anyone know what the waves are like?

Brazil (Cumbuco) - only problem is not sure on how good the waves are?

Peru - Only problem is cold water :(

Morroco (Essouria or something like that) - Not sure if it is possible to find long term accomadation at cheap rates.

Indo (Sumbawa) - Seems to be in the middle of nowhere

I know I am being picky to want all these things, but hey! May aswell try. I can always cut my criteria down later. There has to be 1 perfect place in this wolrd!!

Tom

Brazil, Not cumbuco, but just north from Taiba to Paracuru. The wind is relentless august-november, the down winder from Taiba to Paracuru is a 10km beach righthand down the line headhigh wave fest. There is a great reef at Paracuru itself. Fun kite scene in cumbuco and crazy brazilian women in Fortaleza, a taxi ride away.

Listen to Toby on this one. I spent three months living in Cumbuco and kited that whole coast quite a bit. Cumbuco itself has little to no waves except at full moon when it all goes a bit crazy. Up the coast between Taiba and Paracuru I had the best downwinder of my life. I don't know if you'd call it the best wave spot in the world or anything, but it is a great combination of consistent wind and waves. Feel free to PM me and I can tell you all I know.

hey Tom,
with regard to Brasil i think the following:
- along the north coast, wind blows consistantly, but waves not so consistently big
- in south (ie. around Florianopolis), waves consistent and big, wind the old 3-4 days a week.
- some places in south for kite wave are Campeche (on the actual island), and Ibiraqueira which is about 75km south of Floripa.
another place in Brasil could be the north-east coast: around Natal, Joao Pessoa, Recife (beware sharks), maybe Salvador and even down near Rio (Cabo Frio area). they are all open to the south atlantic swells (bigger in winter months) and generally get enough wind.
Better wind months are from September - December.
when in Floripa, if the wind is up you can get the kite out, if the wind has dropped there is always surf to fall back on (you can pick and choose the beaches as it is an island).
no need to comment the party life and girls you will have in any place in brasil.
in my opinion in brasil it is hard to find that one perfect place for both wind and wave, but there are many places that have both, but just not together all the time.
anyway hope this has helped.

Hey heading over to South America myself in Feb - gonna work my way up to Ecuador in May to kite for a few months out of Santa Marianita. Hope to hit up Cabarete in DR and Margarita Island in Vza and maybe some Brazillian strips...

anyone with experience here for accomodation / other south american spots / travelling with (or shipping) gear without losing it / nightlife etc appreciated!
