Having kited with nil boby ailments over the seasons, I noticed after my first real session on the Crossbow that me right elbow is killing me. I was wondering with the many number of other x-bow users if this aligment was common amongst us Any means around it wrt. setup?
Yeah it hurts for a while but you build muscles. One of the things i found helpful is to try not to pull the bar with just your arms but use the lean and legs more. Really helped me.
I had a four hour session is stit wind yesterday and it is no worse than any other kite to me. If you need to as Bart has pointed out just add a main loop if your arms are soo weak. Otherwise just deal with it for a while and it will be better for your guns than the gym. Rich
Haven't had a problem as yet. I fly with hands close to centre of bar and lean right back like they guys have mentioned.....works a dream and having a ball.
The problem is called Bursitis. It is caused by strain of the ligaments running around the outside of the elbow while the elbow is bent. Try to keep your arms as straight as possible and the condition will not raise its' painfull presence.
The crossbows have a heavier bar pressure (especially at the bottom end of the wind range) than a traditional kite. This is because of the bar and not because of the kite. The pulleys at the bar end pull twice as much sheeting line in for a given movement than a standard bar. This is what gives the huge depower. The sacrifice is that it requires twice the effort to do so.
I have built a bar that incorporates a Spinlock Auto Cleat. You just rotate the bar downwards to lock the chicken loop line and rotate it upwards to release it. Its just a quick flck of the wrist. Works great.
Also the tuning of the kite is important. I use the lower knot on the steering line for gustier conditions and the top knot for lower winds. This places the bar a bit further away from you when in the ideal power zone and means your arms are straighter.
My Bow is a 16M.
Another usefull item is to take 2000 Mg of Glucasamine Sulphate each day. Does wonders for the joinys. (Both Arms and Knees)
my lines got stretched and the only way i could have full power was with thebar the whole way in. I have grown accustomed to that and now i just ride like that always so i constantly are yanking the bar in.
cbf changing the settings over and over for doing unhooked crap
