Opinions please -
Has anyone kited around Yamba & in the river there?
Going in a few days -

Google maps tends to flatten everything out - so can't tell if hills will make it too gusty.
Looking for some flat water time and kids want to surf.
Hoping the river works - some weird wall along one side of the main channel - assume this must date back to pre-railway era??

Anyway - good launch spot(s)
Things to be wary of..
No go zones??
The tide must get going with those rock walls channeling it - good or bad?

Thx
AP

you really need a local to respond.. but.. I'll give it a go! I kited there twice during one trip. Once was in the river - but a lot further upriver than the recommended spot. Doable but gusty as hell on an old C. There is a flat water spot or two near the mouth which some locals said was good but you need just the right wind direction for it to work.

I had a nice session on the open beach a bit south of town - just watch the 'housing commission' beach area it was full of used nappies, broken glass and goon bags. Bit of a surprise in an otherwise spotless little town.

Anyway that was some years ago, there might be new spots now..

I havent kited it but have spoken to a few that have.
Inside the river mouth in a NEaster is spouse to be pretty good flat water, whiting beach? I think its called.Wont work in a southerly which is predicted to hit by thurs/fri and looks like it will stay southerly for a week.
Not alot of room for launch and landing(narrow beach),maybe many families hanging/swimming on holidays over easter too,not sure.
Plenty of open beach (waves) to kite in the southerlies though.
Nice little spot yamba, out of tourist time anyway.
Gotta love the veiw from the pub while haven a beer and counter meal.

I’ll be back home (Yamba) for the Easter break as well. As mentioned above you can kite the river at Whiting Beach in anything with North or due west. A Southerly is predicted over the weekend so the best place to kite will be Pipie Beach (Good waves). You won’t find much in the way of (good) flat water around Yamba but the kids will love the surf. I’ll be on a Rev, say hi.
Grant.

Thx guys - thought the request was sinking without trace!!
Bailed early y'day (surf whizz no:1 bingled his surf board in the morning & the local shop's queue 4 fixes 2 big - so Q-cell and Fglass mess last night - glad sander works - not brilliant but smooth!!) so nice to find responses..

I'll tick the box 4 beer with a view. I hate needless crap & rubbish on beaches - grrrrr.

Burger - Had a suspicion the wind would not play ball for the river - a few references on wind surfing forum when I did a search - they appear to have a ball there. Have picked up a Dynabar and wanted to get it together before going near waves - I am an expert beginner - since 2003 - that's kids 4U!!

Gerard - CU there I have a REV too (13m) - nice kite.
Will post some feed back.
