g,day

for the past 3 weeks i have had a few lessons and tried to absorb the avalanche of information thrown at me by various instructors. the inconsistancies have nearly caused me to forget the kites and go back to my jetski - sorry but they are a blast and kitin is heaps harder!
but today i think ive got it right.
i enrolled myself into a proper and professionally run kiteboarding school in WA and wow - what a difference! the school - Australian Kiteboarding School is a little dearer ($60 deraer per lesson in fact) and i can tell you its money WELL worth spending.
heres the difference;
the school has a well structured system of teaching and the lessons are done using a set proforma so everything is taught to every student in a structured and easy to grasp way with all students being 1 on 1 with an instructor - much more kite time.
the instructor was not only an experienced kiteboarder but more importantly a great teacher with boatloads of patience. This is what makes the biggest difference to a student. Things where explained(and re-explained!)in detail and i felt no pressure to grasp things straight off (i,m a slow learner!)
All the gear in the school was up-to-date and worked well - the kites(air-rush DNA) are set up for gongies like me which takes away a heap of frustration - it didnt fall out of the sky once and practically relaunched itself gently back into the sky on command.
i didnt even have to wait around for a pump to pump up the kite - dig dig!
once out on the water i didnt have to cope with someone screaming garbled advice at me as the school has radio coms helmets which work really well. the harness,s were comfy and new and they had all the sizes there on site.
so my advice is beginners like me should not faf around giving money to shops and recieving a few hours of half hearted tuition on the beach but rather enrol into a proper organization and really have some fun. best 60 bucks ive spent without gettin pissed!
stuff the jetski - kitins good!

thats a bit unfair to other kiting schools as you cant have tried them all and suggesting that Aus Kite school is so much better than all the rest is a big call to make but i would agree darren is very good, yet ian young or west oz kiteboarding also look to be top quality.

i learnt through SOS and found them to be great too although i dont know if dan is still the one doing lessons so cant comment on them for this season

most shops have an associated school with them the big ones being AKS/airborne, WOzK/fulltilt, SOS/SOS the other shops all have their preferred instructors and have similar rewards with them eg $100 off a new product if you had a lesson

I don't think it's unfair to other instructors, he said he has been to others and AKS is better. Sounds pretty fair to me. There may be others as good he hasn't been to, but there's nothing wrong with giving a plug to a mob that has turned around his kiting experience. Imagine if he'd given up and gone back to the jetski! There'd be one more of them and one less of us!!!
