The number of claims could be irrelevant if there were one big one. Fact is I don't want to lose my house if I take someone out so that insurance is worth a hell of a lot more to me than $65.

In the light of discussions on douche bag behaviour/bans/regulation etc in WA in particular I would be interested to know more about the types of claims that have caused the premium hike.

Is there anything that can be done to avoid claims being made? God forbid we have to start a Risk Management thread!

I think there is couple more claims in the pipeline too.

It may be the premium will drop in a couple of years if the claims drop too.

For me its still worth the money at the current cost.
The irony is that its the riders with nothing to loose that wont bother getting the insurance. They are probably the more reckless on the water anyway.

Does anybody know of any cases of non insured riders getting sued?

A few things - yes. One the state rep board has initiated immediately is that all claims are to be lodged thru AKSA.
At least one possibly avoidable claim was carried thru by the insurer without our approval or input.
AND we had precious little time to investigate alternatives for this season without leaving members uninsured for a time - obviously completely unacceptable.
Every board rep is now making every enquiry possible so that we will have a complete folio of possibilities open to us before next seasons premium falls due.

Existing members who have - or do join or renew before 1/1/11 - should appreciate that AKSA and every state has contributed heavily to give them the opportunity to get at least this years cover at the previous enjoyed and extremely low rate.

ROFL- er considering how many people drive and the cost of some cars on the road, and the damage they can cause to public and private property, I think that has nothing to do with kiting even as a comparison.

Its a fair enough comparison we have potential to do alot of damage on our kites, how many people kite near roads? Ive seen a couple of kites end up on the road, if you cause a car crash on your kite without insurance good luck payin that off. And before you say thats cr@p look at the d@ckhead on seven news if the trees didnt stop him he was gonna b crossing a road.

I think most likely scenario is taking out the general public you kite loop ur kite onto someone on the beach pretty high chance of breaking bones, id hate to guess how much you could be sued

$100 a yr, $2 a week doesnt seem so bad to me. Could cost alot more not having it
