Firstly - thanks to the guys who retrieved my kite at duchies, after i watched it sail away at leighton on new years eve...

Was on my waroo, doing a simple transition on an outbound leg - ie furtherest point from the beach i was willing to be, and the webbing between the depower strap and the chicken loop swivel disintegrated. there goes the front two lines.
as soon as the back two lines took the strain, the attachment point gave way on both sides of the kite simultaneously, and the kite went bye bye.

i was left with bar and two lines. no one else around to help.
Bad feeling watching kite being blown away from the beach, even though it was onshore -?
The safety was still attached to me 8)

I'm not going to give the safety lecture of check your gear - all heard it before. Just FYI - if you have a waroo, that webbing is a weak link.

one thing i still haven't done - but should is put my name on that name tag on the kite 8).

Hi Robbo, what bar were you using? On my 07 bar I could not for the life of me imagine the area you describe being a weak link? It's doubled-up webbing, how would one break that? Was the webbing damaged beforehand, cut with a very sharp knife, severely abused & worn or WHAT?

Is this the bar?

that is an 07 bar - mines an 06.
usage was last season (ie not much) and the start of this season - always washed and dried nicely.

The webbing looks really strong - right?
well after i pulled back the cushy cover, all that was left of that webbing was strands of webbing material and the other side of the swivel which didnt have any sharp edges...

maybe it was just made crappily.

looking at the posts about kites / bars breaking these days, i dont think anyone makes a kite with the same quality they did a few years back.

anyways - keep an eye on it.

robbo.

i had that happen on my first kite although i had one line safety and the shackle thing snapped in a boost. kite went backwards inverted and all that ****. worst thing about it is that it always happens when you are riding at your maximum... or at least thats when it should happen right.

lucky you went doing a kiteloop or something when you found its weak point
