My understanding is that Banana Bank is just a BOM weather station and i dont think it is on the mainland. It just gives wind speed and direction and i imagine it was probably established for the yachties. The station map at the bottom of this page www.bom.gov.au/qld/observations/coastalmap.shtml#brisbane gives a rough indicator of where it is as does the seabreeze map of the area. Hope this helps.
