bar width and line length

if the bar width on two diferently branded kites is the same and the lines are of a similar length can the one bar and lines be used for both kites.

Yes. Unless it has a tensioned 5th line.

It's been asked on other threads but you also have to check the safety release are the same. ie if they release to 2 front lines (mini 5th) or one single front line

I would never ride a kite with a mimi 5th as they dont totally dowpower, beginners ride their first kite in all winds, and when they chuck it they expect everything to stop. Mimi 5ths are only to prevent a badly designed kite from inverting when crashed at their upper limits.
%$£^* owes me a wage after my 100+ saves, for their 2007-08 tensioned 5ths that flipped on their backs and crossed lines. If you want to dump your kite everything should stop full stop
