Im at caba (near Kingscliff Northern NSW). I only started kiting this year so haven't been up and riding that long... But I'm going crazy seeing all these westerlies go to waste. I'm on holidays for the next 2 weeks and am very keen on getting out somewhere.. anywhere.. I'll drive up to Wello or where ever but it would be great to meet up with some people who can let me know when and where they are going to hit the water in these Westerlies....

Hey Smedg,

I live in north Tumbulgum, and feel your pain. I've heard that Ballina is great on an incoming tide, but don't know anyone who does it. Wello is awesome in a westerly but yes it's a heck of a drive.

If it's not due west then check out North Kirra in a North Westerly, or if it's dead south with a tiny bit of west in it then you can often find kiters on the eastern side of Kingscliff rivermouth, on the beach there. I went there once but there wasn't enough wind for me.

Wello always has kiters in a westerly, but if you want a hand launching and landing, and you see me around up there, I'm happy to help out.

I'm usually flying a 7m aerotech, or a 5.7m North... But they're reinforced with a special prestressed carbon rod down the leading edge (attached to my board with a special rubber joint), and I use a 22 inch chicken loop with no donkey d!ck

Seriously there's a good kiting community up around Kirra/Kingscliff, you'll find some kiting buddies soon enough. Greg flies a white Liquid Force kite (12m I think from memory) around that area, he's a good bloke.

I'm thinking Wello tomorrow, if you see a poley out there on a blue board with a dodgily-repaired nose then say hi
