Bit pi$$#d at the moment about a deal gone wrong. Please read on and give me your opinions.....

Saw an advert for an 05 rhino in the seabreeze buy and sell. Spoke with the seller and all sounded good (hardly used, great condition etc) so teed up a time to look at the kite.

The time came round and the **** hit the fan at work so not able to go look. But was able to get a mate, who only knows a bit bout kites, to go look. Wasn't too concerned as basically all i wanted him to check was that it wasn't trashed, hand over the cash and take the kite.

All sounded sweet when i called him later that day and i caught up with him yesterday to grab the kite. I neally fell off my chair when he brought it out in a rhino2 bag and my heart skipped a few beats when i unrolled a RHINO2 . Straight away realised my biggest mistake was not even mentioning that my mate should look for the 05 (as i wouldn't think that a fellow kiter, especially a female kiter, would pull a stunt like this).

Biggest problem, i cant get hold of her. I dont think she meant to decieve me, maybe she just has no idea (she was a yank after all), however she did mention she was going on holidays OS.

Sounds fishy hey........................

Whats the go with that? have i been played by a con?

anyone want a rhino2 12m, with sceptor bar? $400.00

That really sux Mopz

Ive bought a lot of gear off this website and just had friends and family in Perth Pick it up.... (all of whom have no idea about kiting) I havent been disapointed or decieved yet....

But I spose it is always a bit of a gamble..... I'd definatly persist in trying to contact that Filthy Deceptacon! Do a bit of investigation work! You might be able to get your money back

She stores her split screen combi in a garage at new farm.

Anyone into combi's?

i'll tell ya where it is for $400 bucks.[}:)]

Just another thing, anyone know if the rhino2's where 5th line compatible, haven't unrolled the lines but she told me it is a 5 line (5th element bar). Anyone got pictures of the bar rhino2 came with standard, cause this looks like the same bar that came with a mates 05.

5th lines wern't around then - you'll have to have the kite modified to fit a 5th line (ie beef up the LE attachment point). The sceptar bar was pretty different to the 5th element one, if its a sceptar it'll be white and grey and have all sort of adjustmenty bits on it, with a lift collar release on the CL.

I wouldnt bother modifiying the kite, man that model was a puller.

Maybe she wasn't aware. The first kite I ever tried to sell on buy and sell had 2 small holes and a faulty stitching repair. I was completely unaware of both these faults. Even to the point where I thought the buyer was having a lend of me to get a discount. I had sent it to him without payment, so we just never went ahead with the transaction and he returned it. I felt horrible, and now always make sure I fully inspect a kite before selling. Likewise buying, if possible. I have bought 3 kites, and sold 4 on buy and sell. It works well for late model kites (that aren't lemons)
If the seller has misrepresented the year or condition of the kite, you should be eligible for a refund. If you can find her, before she spends it all on margaritas.

i have a 12m rhino 2 here. it has a pulley like attachment on the leading edge that i rigged a fifth line onto. perfectly strong enough. it looks like its always been there.

my mate has a 14m rhino 2. pretty sure it DOESN'T have this attachment.

hope that helps :/

Yep, thats the bar oakie.

Just noticed she also has an "05 Black tip" (she thinks ) for sale.

BUYER BEWARE.

I know the rhino2's had a bit of a cult like following in their day. How good are they?

Am i wasting my time even throwing the thing in the air? just for a laugh, as i am tonguing for a new kite and am now gonna have to wait until this bird gets back from holidays before i can even try to get my $$$ back.

Man i'm dirty.

Not particularly keen on modifying or even keeping the kite as i know how much difference a few years makes in kite performance. 05 is pretty much the oldest kite i want to be flying, but because of their reputation i am tempted to try it out.

What do you mean by 'puller' Oakie?

I know they are supposed to be animal kites.

02 model has no depower.hook up and hang on..it's a real bitch compared to the newer stuff but if you haven't flown new stuff will seem great to you..will have to modify to fly, wouldn't spend any thing on it if you want to give it back..just keep away from others in gusty conditions

You'll have thighs like that woman from James Bond, erm... She tried to strangle hime...Onatop????

There's a thread about grunty kites going on at the moment, this would be near top of the list, its a real eadge hard lowish speed, no depower machine, but will send you pretty high. Something to do with deep luff profiles. I cut my teeth on the 1st Rhino which was an awesome kite, but if the wind went up 2 knots I was f***ed.

So you have the sceptar bar?? See if it has a 5th line on it.., I bet not.

One question (and you dont have to answer, but it may put things in perspective), how much did you pay for the kite?

I still haven't unrolled the bar/lines (cant bring my self to look at it) but there is nothing coming through the bar or out of the chicken loop area that would suggest that it has a 5th line.

It is definately the sceptor bar you described oakey, with the push to eject and grey and white bar.

Gonna get it all out and have a look this arvo.

Paid $400, if it was an 05 in this condition, it would have been a steal which is why i acted with such haste.

The buyer lied to you, simple as that. You could lodge a formal complaint about the fact that the sale was misrepresented and technically you have an argument that will legal stand up in a small claims court or similar. An 05 is an 05, if the seller didn't know it wasn't an 05 its still a misrepresentation of the facts. The fact that it doesn't have a 5th line is also a misrepresentation.

If you sent someone who didn't know kites, that may be your fault, but if you were a naive buyer who bought it on the basis that it was an 05 when its not, again, its still misrepresentation by the buyer.

Any idea how long she is on holiday? Try get hold of her and if you do, give her an opportunity to clear it up, if she doesn't you can submit a letter of demand and then go through the legal channels. Take a copy of the advert if you can, because you have misrepresentation in writing then as well.

bummer
i had similar a couple of years back

dr nick in qld for the record

advertised as 06 machine, sent over 05
kites much the same, bar not, but stuck with a kite that was 2yr old model instead of 1, not so bad as a three yr difference

rest of buy/sells have been fine, relies somewhat on honesty by both parties, i like to think people will do the right thing, but there is always one a/hole to spoil the party

Thats for sure, i've bought a bit of gear through seabreeze and never had issues, even with gear sent interstate. Even had one bloke send me a kite to inspect before i paid (champion).

Didn't think i'd end up in this situation from a local purchase.

Have to admit, i cant deny it is partially my fault for not cluing my mate up on the 05 detail, but this should never have been an issue really. All i said to him was make sure its in good nick (which it is, great nick for a 5 year old kite, near perfect)

The one thing that i suppose has stopped me from getting too concerned about the retrieval of my $$ is the fact that she is part of the kiting community, which as a whole are a pretty honest bunch of wind worshippers.

The kiting community is definatly alot more trustworthy than any other sporting group i've ever been involved in. You sure as s#!t wouldn't leave your 125 leaning up against a tree ready to go while you went for a blat on the 250, but in kiting you'll see everyones 12m rigged up on the beach while the wind picks up and their out on their 10's.

Still, all pray to the weather gods that it rains on her holiday

Might just be the best 'mistake' you ever made
Check what this expert (who really knows kites) says about Rhino 2's.

Itim - Didn't have time for photos, she was leaving for holiday the next day, saw the ad, called, arranged a time, sent my mate (who in all fairness did a good job in picking up a mint condition kite, which is all i asked him to do). Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Puppet - Bizare coincidence that you should refer to that particular issue of that particular mag.

As i read your post i thought hmmm KBM vol.7 issue 4 ?? how olds that?? do i have it?? as if! what are the chances! where the hell am i gonna get that?? sounds old??

Look beside the computer and under a boating bias catologue and some bills (prob unpaid ones cause some beech stole me dosh) is that exact mag. Dont know how old it is (so might not be a big coincidence??)but its been knocking round a while.

Encouraging that Moti gives them such a rap, kind of makes me think maybe it is worth a shot. Dont know that it sounds like the right kite to be riding in the gusty off shore ****e S/Westerlys were getting right now.

Maybe i should head down the tweed and drop in on Moti, hey Moti look what i got here, like brand new, like it was way back in 2002.......

Anyone else share the same love for Rhino2's, maybe should take some pics and advertise it
