I bought a two string Nash Kite off a guy who quickly taught me some basics, (luanching with a friend off the beach and landing with a catcher) flew it on the beach for many hours, and a small stunt kite as well for many many hours.
Upon fitting the wake board boots while looking down and hooked in to the harness, the kite dipped straight into the power zone and stayed there spiraling for about 4-5 seconds. This was enough to have me ripped up the beach about 100meteresleaving my skin a little sand blasted and my nerves a little shocked. What if that soft white sand were oyster covered rocks? May not have been so funny then. Respect to the power of the kite. Now i am keen to learn to Kite Surf properly and safely, am very excited about becoming active in the sport and with it's members.

questions:-

What gear should i start with, can i modify this two string kite to have a better safety release than the current wrist strap?

Any recommendations for instructional video's, instructors, where to buy gear or have gear modified and setup in the Hawks Nest Area?

I am a strong swimmer, have good ocean knowledge due to surfing and being around the water my whole life, i have been working on commercial lobster fishing boats for the past ten years in WA and USA. Ten years wakeboarding, water skiing/barefooting and snow too!

If this post is legit - how is the form on the guy who sold the two line kite.

I almost killed myself flying a 4 line 2005 Rhino - do yourself a favour and buy a modern 4/5 line kite and keep yourself alive!

<obligatory>Also, get some professional lessons before you hurt yourself!</obligatory>

DVDs should only be used as a review after lessons or when you have the basics down. If you watch a Beginner DVD do it after your lesson and concentrate on what you have already learned and maybe only the next short section. this will help you remember what was said in the lesson and may explain it differently than the instructor giving you a better understanding of what is being taught.

Do not use DVDs without taking lessons to get you up to the up and riding stage.

the guy said he knew what he was doing and wanted an old school wakestyle kit. I just sold him what he wanted and alerted him to the high level of experience needed for the gear.
not my fault he lied and didn't take the clear advice given to him.
