My son has just turned 13 and is really keen to get going .
He is currently learning and can go out okay on a short 5 ft custom directional, but cant change his feet when turning to come back to shore.
Am thinking of getting him a twin tip so that he can get used to right foot forward.
Any help with the appropriate size/shape that would get his confidence up would help.
He is only 50 kgs and using a 6mtr rally

My Son started when he was 12 and learnt on a 130 with a 6m, which seemed to suit him. He weighed around 45Kgs at the time from memory and he learnt fine with this combo. He is 14 now and is still using it but we have added an 8m for him which gives him a variety of wind conditions. He try's every board (including strapless) he can get his hands on at demo's now and has no problems with them. He'd have the boot full of different types if I'd let him. ;-)

I think that we will bight the bullet and get a board between 125-130 as it gets very windy here in summer and it may be too choppy for anything bigger. cheers

Im with Juicerider esp if you are looking for something cheap & temporary. He is probably going to progress pretty quickly - young guys progress that fast its enough to make U sick.
Id be looking for something "right size" for his weight ... or maybe + 5kgs. ie 122 > 128 & remember width plays a part.
Any amount of boards out there under 128 for peanuts since regular kiters realised they had gone way too small.
Its really hard to sell anything under 128 for anything like a reasonable price.
Try to get something not too old - but really - for the amount of time he will want it AND because he is probably growing like a pumpkin in horseshyte anything temporary will do the trick.
Nothing on our shelf here at Kite Surf SUP to offer atm but a search of Seabreeze buy & sell should bring up lots of options (im guessing).

Juiceriders ProToy at 122 would be one good option. Nice board, good construction and should match his weight for a season of powered up riding. A bit bigger; 124 or 126 may be a easier, bit more versatile & maybe suit for while longer?
Whatever you decide dont go above 128 or you will be holding him back.

My boys started on the 122 about a year ago and recently they wanted a board they could use with boots, I tried them on a tempo 130 and they could not get on with it. They found it to hard to edge properly and turn. I got them a LF Influence 126 each, and they love it. They are only 11 but weigh about 47kg. It depends how tall your son is too, but once your son is able to hold enough power to stay upwind, he may struggle to control a 130, especially if you sail in any chop.

Interesting comments. This hasn't been our experience so far, but our next eldest is starting up this season and so I will keep an eye on this in case he struggles. It could have something to do with a board size of 130 and if so might be worth trying something smaller. All good to know, will see how he goes initially.

I've got my 8 year old pretty well tuned in with the kite and he's hammering me to let him have a proper crack in the water.
He surfs OK, but he's a midget boy about 4ft and 28 Kgs.

Epic do a kids 115 board, no idea what its like, but this would be the sort of size to look for.
