hi any one know of a good place to go for a holday near perth that will be good for the rest of the family as well? but good wind and possibly waves...

all the coastal towns in the south west are nice and from yallingup south there are waves all over the place.can get really crowded though.if you hire a 4wd you would probably have a better chance of getting away from the crowds.Yallingup about 3 1/2 hours south.But i rekon if you want wind for kiting,north is better.Try any coastal towns north of perth.Lancelin to gero there are great spots all the way.If you like driving maybe even go up to Kalbarri.

I'm hiring a campervan for 2 weeks from xmas to Jan 8, was thinking of going all the way down to Esperance and as high as Lancelin. Are the winds still consistent down south in summer?? What would you recommend?

Lancelin is virtually guaranteed to have 8 hours (possibly 24 hours) of strong SW winds everyday.
Esperance is a much bigger lottery, was down there this time a couple of years ago and a cyclone hit.
Between these 2 points prob of kite wind goes up as you head north IMHO

cheers guys, do you think its a better option heading up north to Gerro? Never been north, is there any surf past Lancelin??

Go North until your dead tired and then come South...then North again..and so forth, there is wind everywhere in WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

you can go as far north as you want. a few good spots a bit further north but well worth it, Coral bay ( anything from flat water to surf), another place just near coral bay is waroora station( not sure on the spelling) the turn off is about 20km before you turn into coral bay rd not off the north west coastal highway, you first have to stop at the station and pay a small camping charge not much 5-10 dollars from memory and let them know what you are doing. also exmouth is good, or just after carnarvon is nargloo station argueably one of the best surf spots in W.A. all the places get a regular arvo seabreeze, and at the moment it is probably good all day long. its a bit further to drive that far north but if you dont want to fight the crowds, and have an awesome time its worth the drive, I am going to be stopping in coral bay and hopefully nargloo myself on my way back down to perth in a few weeks time as I am in karratha at the moment.

How strong do the seabreezes get? WIll an 11m be too big?? I am 78kg, am thinking of buying a Nova 9.

they usually are a 20 - 25, as in sit at 25 kts for hours...., further north you go, stonger it gets, ie sit at 30 kts for hours north of gero. I'd take a ten with 5th line, or 11/12 and 7/8

Gero is THE spot in summer. The trees dont grow sideways for nothing! check out seabreeze NW gero graphs.Point Moore is excellent, Coronation beach has excellent waves, Back beach has long beachbreak waves that actually peel, not closeout. Wind starts at 8 am and is good for a 12' then by 1:00 its 8-9 time. Cheap motels for $65 an night

Denham is it. Went there last Xmas. 25 knot winds from dawn to dusk and all through the night. The local beach is around 1m deep for 200+meters.
Heaps of other sites as well as some little lakes inland. 4wd would make things a little easier for access.
Can't ask for anything more except for maybe a mcdee's

Thanks for your help guys, actually can't wait to get over there. Am packing a boogy board for my GF to keep her occupied when i surf in the mornings. I would love to hang up north the whole 2 weeks but can't go to WA without popping back down to Margarets for a few days, hanging to surf North point again!!
Hopefully see you guys in the water.
