yesterday i was out riding and there were goat boats in the vicinity .I hopped on a wave and had a nice ride not realising that a goat boat had hopped on the wave behind me .When I peeled off and turned to head back out there he was coming straight down the wave like a missile heading straight for me .I downlooped and shot down wind managing to avoid spearing .

not complaining about the GBer just a heads up that these guys can really motor along and be on ya in a flash

There called goat boats for a reason.. come up to birubi on a sunny Sunday morning when the swell is 2ft or smaller and see what a debacle that is..

Those pesky goat boats will eat anything - better check if your harness has a few nibbles out of it.

1st it was goat boats easily paddling onto any kind of mush-excuse-for-a-wave, then came the return of mini-mals/mals and now it's bloody kiters screaming in and grabbing and everything.. Where will it all end?? The average surfer might as well give it away I reckon..

You know those little one person kayaks....

Maybe on the flipside it comes down to living in harmony, we don't understand them and what they do and how they manouvre and vice versa. Imagine how other water users feel when we are zipping around- they might not understand how we work, something to think about...

PS Goatboats do seem to be universally despised tho....

Thanks Geoff, reading the numerous posts on the interaction between the multitude of sports trying to get the same wave sometimes makes me glad that we have many square kilometres of relatively boring flat water directly off our foreshore

They're a paddle ski - also known as an egg beater. Long before mals made a comeback and long before SUP made a re-emegence and long before kitesurfing was ever dreamed of - goat boats have been despised in the lineup.

Goat boat: a usually bright orange floating device

Usually seen skiding sideway, bouncing up and down in front of a foot of white water.[}:)]

Very occasionaly,if you are lucky, you may see one stuck upside down and you must not under any condition attempt to help him back as mother nature must prevail

I couldnt care how they work, but why oh why would someone try to use one of those things. I mean seriously.
I don't think i could think up a crapper sport. Except canoe polo. It's 2 teams of 5 goatboats in a swimming pool, and they try to chuck a water polo ball into a raised net thing.... exciting stuff....not.

But in the surf they call their waves like nobodys business, then proceed to nose dive/roll over/chicken out after about .5 of a second.

Sorry, must calm down. Breathe in...breathe out.

Don't forget the frantic paddling action which gets blurred which resembles an egg beater. Which is why they call it an egg beater.

I thought they were called goat boats because you only get old goats of guys out on them in their dirty DTs/budgie smugglers/banana hammocks/euro man shorts

I take offence!!!!
A long time ago I use to ride the G Boats. I even spray painted "GOAT BOAT" on the bottom of my ski because I was upside down so much.
Everyone hated me and tried to hurt me when out in the waves.

Then I took up sailboarding and the same thing happened again.

Then I took up Kitboarding and the s.........

a goat boat would be good on realy light wing days with no chop.
used to have one years ago and had lots of fun . even caught a barrel or 2.
i`m with baz a hate jet skis . the idiots in botany bay each summer create havoc driveing to close to the beach too fast . i even had to jump one last summer to avoid an accident. they should ban them there like they have in the harbour.

guys... chill the f*ck out...
goat boaters are just another way of enjoying the water...
and I reckon that after a good goating session theyve had a better work out then us kiters... so probably dont want to mess with either... variety is the spice of life...
after 5 years of kiting im thinking of learning a new sport - maybe pole boarding... or even goat boating for hell of it...
its all about enjoying the water........
geeeeeeesh

ps if they re stealing all the waves tell em to get f(cked

Mate if you are desperate to learn something new try being a parking inspector... it is 3 or 4 steps higher up the popularity ladder than goatees.

Only the goatess (or mal riders) that keep snaking wave after wave used to give me the irrits (I don't surf anymore due to crapped out shoulders). The rest i figure are enjoying their own stoke and if it works for them so be it. Still I'm not sure about them pashing their granny at chrissy do's but as I say each to their own..

or wave ski
i must confess i started in the surf on one of these many many moons ago

still got one of the best barrels of my life at north point on a wave ski, pure fluke but still

back in those days quite popular with ex aussie cricketers, laird, lillee and a few others, who used to terrorise surfers at south point with their no rule applies to us attitude - somethings never change , eh
