i've busted the corner of my slingshot reflex board so that the core is exposed. i thought i might try and fix it with chemset- the same stuff i use to set anchor bolts into concrete at work. it's a 2 part polyester glue that sets rock hard.

just wondering if anyone has used it or similar to repair a board?

Dont be stupid!
I use that **** all day, its not for fixing boards!
buy some fibreglass resin or even some 2 part epoxy from coles/woolys

agreed with sunniboy! Just by a two pack epoxy, set it up, sand it when it hardens and you are done. Chemset is way too heavy duty, and I doubt it would sand very well. Who really knows how it would react to the core.

i've sanded it before- no worries there.
i'm going to try it, otherwise i'll never know. i'll post some pics if it all goes wrong.

Hey buddy,
Grab a product called 'knead-it,' can be found in lots of hardware stores. It is perfect for a repair like that, because it sets rock hard, can be sanded, is water and uv proof etc- and if you're into cosmetics you can paint over it. It's worth the 8 bucks, cause if you leave the core exposed it can delaminate, warp, i.e. F**k your board

+1 for knead it. always have some hanging around for a quick fix, especially when travelling. It works great on small cracks or splits but on larger areas it tends to let go after a while.

so i finished sanding it off a couple of days ago. no dramas so far- seems to have taken to the board and cured like it normally does. the board still flexes properly around the chemset and there is no indication of a reaction.
a couple of pics. a bit rough i know but i'm a boilermaker not a shaper...

Hows the chemset to sand? I had my doubts but looks like it will be ok.
Chemset is not all that sticky, but only other option would have been fibreglass

it's not hard stuff to sand. i hit it with a 240 grade sanding disk on the grinder, then touched it up by hand. it loads the disk and paper a bit, but not much more than fibreglass.
it sets a lot quicker than glass and is easier to use when it's wet.
depending on how it holds up after a few sessions i reckon it might be my new choice for board repairs

Thanks for the update, I am rather surprised by the sanding ability...Lets see if it doesn't get brittle and crack with the weather. Not sure how it will handle the uv's.

101. i've only seen chemset in 101, 801 or 802.
never used or seen 505.

Most fiberglass impregnated resins today are either vinyl-ester or epoxy, polyester does not like these I think you should look into common product repairs.

What he said, ployester does not bond well to epoxy. most boards are made from epoxy, so you should use that where possible.
