just trying to work out funds for mambo. anyone know if you can bus it to merimbula from canberra. or fly into merimbula from canberra. or even bus from sydney or plane. any prices or info of who i need to book through would be greatly appreciated as it seems it might be a cheaper alternative than getting a hire car. thanx

Hey Ry,

Myself and Simon hired a car last year, you really need wheels when you get there.

Maybe we could get a crew together and save some wedge, Carl is interested and we could ask Simon.

Awesome event!!

G'day Ryland
I'm sure that you can bus it from Sydney and even Canberra, the problem will be getting a direct flight to Canberra from WA though?
That would mean plane changes, a wait, and then a wait and a slow trip to Merrimbula.
Even getting a bus from Sydney will make it a long day, it takes around 5 hrs by car so can imagine it would take several hours by bus.
If you are on your own, give [email protected] and email, see if you can squeeze into the Kitepower van?
Otherwise team up and rent a car or van in Sydney, you will get mauch better rates up here.
Call in to Kitepower on your way for awesome coffee and and amazing cakes, pies etc from the paitissiere next door.
Plus you get to see the biggest dedicated kitesurf shop in Oz, now expanding upstairs.
Make sure you pack some berroca or your fav H/O cure!!

Hey Ryland,

If you wanted to fly from sydney or melbourne, REX (Regional Express) is part of Virgin and their flights from Sydney are about $120 each way. Here's the link to check it out www.rex.com.au/.

Good luck!!

I'm driving there it's only 4018km from Perth a nice 2-3 day drive.

If you had a spare couple of weeks Ryland I could have given you a lift.

Ian.

When I plugged a perth to canberra fare into the flight centre website all I got was split flights via melbourne?

sh!t is does too. be quicker to fly direct to sydney and drive to merimbulatotal 11 hours roughly. and it takes about 11 hours to get to canberra and then you still have over 2 hours of driving. cheap flights though. bout 400 return.

Qantas does now fly direct to Canberra, just not that frequently.

MEL is probably the most useful port for you if you are coming in from PER as there are more frequent services from MEL to CBR or anywhere. Make sure you remember that if you are flying JQ you will most likely land at AVV not MEL!

Check prices of hire cars with a partner hire company with the carrier you decide to fly with & you may find it cheaper then flying and using the bus. As someone mentioned having a hire car is very convenient and it could save you money in the long term then using taxis or relying on lifts and public transport. Try to pool it if you can.

Using regional carriers like rex are handy but expect to pay more.
