hi guys,

I'm a uni student currently on my summer holidays. Doing a bit of homework as to how and why people buy the kites they do. I have been kiting for about a year, and am looking at improving ways of selling kites to others safely and cheaply. I think buying a kite should be like buying a car, you should be able to take it for a test drive. If you could take a couple of minutes to fill out a quick survey i would be much appreciative.

Thanks in advance

You can already - its called Escrow. A few companies do it - Escrow Australia is/was one.

Principal is simple, buyer & seller arrange transaction and Escrow agent certifies each step and holds the $$$. If the buyer wants to get the gear & try first, they arrange a longer approval time with the seller.

I've been enviously watching the amount of water time you have been getting lately - first I staked my foot & for the rest of the time I am playing dad...school hols almost over - I should be seeing you on the water soon

Thanks to everyone who filled out a survey.

Checked out that company Mr Plow. looks pretty good, i might use that later on, depending on cost.

I'm actually thinking of contacting one of the manufacturers with a bit of data in a bid to help them get their product onto the market. I'm thinking along the lines of whenever the wind is on, a seller from a specific company rocks up, throws a kite in the air, and gives people a go. Of course the necessary disclaimers will have to be filled out, and not everyone will be able to try. Mainly people who already have a kite there. I think this way people who may not have been pursueing buying this companies kite, may be interested. I think this is a more efficient way at selling kites rather than just sponsoring a guy to use their kites. I'm shocked at how many people have filled out my survey that are sponsored. I didn't know that many people were. (good on em though!) But when they're on the water, they just look like another kiter. If those guys put up a flag, and give people a go at the kites, i think sales will be hugely improved. Mind you i'm not looking at making the beach into a salesyard, but merely looking at letting people fly different kites to let them try something different.

As to the water time, it's been great! On Wed i think it was (when the easterly was blowin) i had the whole beach to myself for about 3 hours! Then someone finally showed up and i was pretty knackered so i kited for about another half and then packed up. Spewin i left so early as would've liked to seen the pros that showed up later on.

Hope the foot gets better and i hope the rest of us can avoid that kind of stuff. I'm always hobblin around the house after a kiting session, you don't notice the small ones until you get out.

cheers
James
