hi all,

this is my first season, lovin it so far, Im looking at getting a second kite n get a quiver goin. im asking about cab drifter 9M, their marketed as a wave kite, do they still perform as well as they do on flat water? I ask this cause im looking to get into waves aswell as flatwater n im also looking for a kite that I can grow into, so does anybody know if cab drifters are good for both or are more wave than flat?? any info would be great

thanks for your reply mate, im pretty much sold on them , just wanted to find out other ppls views on them n hopefully next season ill give the waves a crack!

great kite for the waves, not so much bottom end if u r a big guy, and if u like to do big jump they not so good for that, but deff 1 of the best kites I ridden in the surf, maybe a all round kite would be the switch blade

I ride Drifters and love them but only kite waves. I think Switchblades are better "do-everything" kites, but most modern kites will serve your purpose.

One thing to consider is that if building a quiver it is better to stick with one make and model ie get different sizes of the same kite.

Different brands and different models within each brand can fly extremely differently and have different power. This could result in you having to adjust the way you fly everytime you change kites which is not good or worse still have kites that seriously overlap in their wind range (which is just a waste of money).

As you get better you will rarely look at the kite and often fly one handed (esp in waves) so it is good to have a kite that does the same thing all the time.

My suggestion is when you have tried a couple of kites and settled on one you like trade what you have got and get 2 (new) or three (if you go for the 1 year old model that you can get much cheaper) of the type you like.

Then you have a quiver and will progress much faster.

Love them, I am 76kgs and my 9m has heaps of grunt, gets lit in 20knots+......

thanks for your replys and suggestions guys , will keep the same brand and model suggestion in mind, ill be using as my high wind kite as my other kite is a cab vector 12m so a drifter 9m shouldn't over lap the wind ranges of each kite. so with ur replys and a bit of trial n error ill have it worked out in no time thanks all

If you're anything like me, once you get into wave
kiting you won't want to go back to flat water.
I started on a switchy, but as someone above said
they do suck as a surf kite.
I now only ride the drifters and love them!
If you want a kite that is good in the surf and
on the flat I would go for a Chaos.
That used to be cabrinha's surf kite a couple
years ago (before the drifter existed) when they were called nomads.
I demoed one once and they were awesome!

told this year that the nomad had just had a name change to chaos.
In that case, go for the drifter dude.
