i was thinking about getting a cheap body board second hand and sticking some fins on it for light winds just to see if you can really . i was looking at skim boards and thinking they look just like a body board but they cost $500 rather than $20 . the 3 problems i can think of is may be the buoyancy and bendyness or may be just to small but for light winds on flat water ????
im sure people have thought about this b4 and there probably a reason why people dont do it but. ...
has any 1 tried b4 or have a opinion on this ? thanks

I think you should be able to do it. My son with his trainer kite has ridden skim boards and body boards, both without fins which meant going of the wind a bit, but he sure had a good time doing it. He stood on the skim board and kneeled on the body board. For the record I think it is a 2m kite and his weight was about 40kilos when he first tried it and last summer close to 60kilos. He has only done it in enclosed waters which are shallow so walking home is always an option.

You can kite on a bodyboard but it is important to do things progressively and start off slow. Kiting can be dangerous even with the correct equipment.

Once you are comfortable bodyboarding on a twintip, then you are ready to consider kiting a bodyboard. Be careful.

Its not that stupid an idea. Well maybe it is but Ive done it. Quite a few times in fact.
Back in the day when I was out chasing LW and was at the beach every day I went thru a stage of picking up every old body board I spotted from the kerbside waste & taking them down to Woodies to play with while waiting/hoping for some real wind.
Wasted many a precious moment - but hey - it was way more fun than sitting in the car cursing.
The small ones - forget it - that really is stupid. But the bigger ones - used as a skim in super shallows - Yep OK - but a tad flukey.
Go anywhere beyond a few inches deep & as soon as you get any power with the slightest off surface move - intentional or otherwise - results in 2 x half sized boards on the landing.
The 1/2 sized bits definitely didnt work
