On wednesday (12th jan) i had my ute stolen from brighton beach car park about 6pm, broad daylight.

somehow the thievs broke into my hard cover which is where i had my car keys and took off with the ute, i have heard nothing about it so far.

In the back were 2 kites!!!
1. Brand new 2010 12m cabrinha switchblade (orange and black) in the bag with the bar, lines and pump
2. 2007 7m North Rhino (white with blue) in the bag with bar lines
3. pat love k-air youth size harness

also 2 surfboards: 6ft grubb fiber glass board and a 7ft star surf soft board yellow.

if anyone sees these kites for sale anywhere please notify me on 0433019892 or the police.

luckily i was out on the water using my 9m nomad so i still have something to use.
thanks guys and make sure you look lock and leave

Makes ya very angry to here this sort of crap goin on. I think people dont realise how easy the hard covers are to get into. Thieves know that water users leave the electronic key in the tray. I have had mates with utes who had the hard cover broken into and tools stolen.

Hope you get some luck and the bastards are caught. This should be a warning for other ute owners with hard covers. You really need a locked box inside the tray bolted down.

Sorry to hear man. I use a keypod and lock it under the car. Luckily it's worked so far. Good luck, hope you get it all back.

can you get a non electronic key cut (to use when surfing etc) or does the key have to be electronic..?

no point storing your electronic key in/near the car as the immobilizer will not cut in if the key is in close proximity...which allows thieves to hotwire the car without the key.. we had a prado taken from our local ....better to take your chances hiding the key on the beach within a towel/bushes/gear .. the surflocks are easily broken with a quick blow...f*&ken thieves are scum!!

Put it under the car where you can't swing a hammer. Any my key (subaru) has to actually be in the ignition. Even holding it next to the barrel doesn't disarm the immobilizer.

They do work. Better that wishful thinking anyway.

Have been some dodgy lookin mofos hanging round the carpark lately.

Bit too keen to peruse what's in the back of ya car whilst you are gearing up too.

Might pay to have a real good look around and make sustained eye contact with any curious types who seem to be hangin round without much purpose.

Best of luck getting the wheels and wings back Surfy.

Another option:

3x Glad Zip Lock bags

Seal the 1st with your key in it
Place the 1st bag in the 2nd and 2nd in the 3rd bag - done.

Take your key with you in the water (secured in your boardies pocket)

Have used this technique last 2 years at Scarbs never had an issue.

Cheers R.

Most cars now come with a service key that does not have the remote but still has the fob that deactivates the immobiliser, and they are sealed in the plastic head so you can take them out on the water with you and this normally only opens the door and works in the ignition some don’t not work on the boot so you have to open from inside if it is not on the central locking.............hope this helps, make sure you secure your key as they are over 150 bucks to replace ;|

This sux.

Been seeing dodgy looking guys driving around carparks, past cars parked on the street. Generally its 2 or more guys in a cheap car driving around.

Look out for the tell tale sign of the "dirty chav" look about them...skinny, track suit, small baseball cap on top of head. They simply look out of place at the beach.

Like funky said, if you see dodgy looking guys around, really stare at them, make sure they know you've got a good look at them and their car.

Damn. That sucks. Scum.

Just a thought, more than eyeballing them, if there are a few of you on the beach (backup is a wonderful thing) be upfront and take photos of them and their car. Make it obvious that you will use technology, mates, and the cops to deter and identify them.

I park at Trigg, much safer.

Jokes aside, this is a huge bummer. Will definitely keep an eye out / do something if I can. Small chance I guess, but hope you get all your gear back ok mate.

Remember to upload the photos if you can too, 'cause if they steal your camera with their photos on it, it's no good.

cheers for the sympathy guys!
havent heard anything about the car or any of the gear in it so far i have a feeling the car is long gone. the only thing i can do is hope the stupid fools try to sell the two kits online or somewhere because almost all the kiters in the country have read this post judging by the amount of people that i spoke to this arvo at scabs.

i think ill be purchasing one of those combination locks you can lock to a tow bar.
the only thing im worried about is they are quite obvious, thievs could see that, come back 10 mins later with bolts cutters and there in!

i got the call from the insurance company today saying i most probably won't receive any financial reinbursement because i left my keys in the car.
I argued this point saying they were in the tray securely locked away i had done everything possible.

I now have to have a one on one recorded interview with the insurance and they want me to take them to brighton beach to show where the car was taken.

just a heads up to everyone out there, dont tell the police or the company "the truth" if you do lock your keys to your car or in your car. ITS BS

yeah always check your policy before you ring insurance just make some anon enquiries about a 'new policy' to be sure 'if this was to happen how would that effect my policy'....

at the end of the day they're a business.

My other tip is to call across caparks to your mates about theives being in the area. Make it super obvious that your suspicious of everyone.

Or get a crap car so noone wants to steal it. I've had no back window for months and my car is there every time

Little o, u don't drive an old magna by any chance. I've seen one the same as mine at pinnas a few times. If so, it's the ultimate kiting car, I swear mine is invisible to everyone! Especially thieves, cops and hot chicks!!! Stealth FTW.
