Photos like this have been shown before.
The general concensus was that it is a very reckless thing to do !

If the rider crashes at that speed the small child could be badly hurt by the riders weight and ,or the board!

User your well past your use by date
When i was a kid I use to stand between my dads legs on his wind surfer doing 20 knots and catapolted over the mast a few times.
rode a motor bike at 5. crashed a car, the first and only time at 10
my point is kids are being wraped in cotton wool by soft do gooders like your self and dont get to learn or experiance thing only dictated as to what they are alowed to feel.
The father wasnt going flat chat and looked totally in control. and if he fell of...its only water d@#k head

alright, bring in expert witness
kids dont learn what not to do by being told, if a kid doesnt get hurt ever then he will not realise what he can and cant do.
i learnt;
dont play with power points
dont put metal in the microwave
dont use fallen trees as bridges down at eh river-yes i did fall 2m on to a large rock and got blood blisters on back and hands
never touch the exhaust
dont punch windows-learnt from a friend that 1
dont jump on bunk beds
dont start the outboard out of water
look were you are running
dont play hid and seek in a large shopping center
dont walk off in a strange city
rope burn...
dont try cast dads fishing rod with the over head reel
dont open the cupboard under the sink-mum saw me 10 sec later and showed me what bleach and stuff did and what it would do to me if i touched it
dont jump on the back of a chair

and to this day i have taken those lessons with me

btw how is he an idiot for something he did when he was 10?
i bet your kid will miss out on some important lessons in life (user)

User, are you for real?
I think the drive to the beach would have been more dangerous for the kid than the kitesurf!

I don't see the major thing with this. Obviously if the parent is a complete novice this could be dangerous but there is nothing dangerous about this unless the kid can't swim.

I think some people protect their children too much.

Can't see the problem with the kite picture, but I can see the the problem with having your first car crash at 10! What took you so long?

Seriously though, there is a limit to this 'let's not wrap them in cotton wool' backlash against children's safety. I think ten year olds crashing cars might just be that limit. It's a bloody stupid thing to do and my Dad would have hit the roof if I'd even thought about doing that.

It's also worth remembering that one of the main dangers to children today is not any of the above, it's getting the daylights smacked out of them by their parents. [Soapbox goes away now]

Why did he wait that long to get the kid out there?
My wife said that if we have kids, then, I'll have to look after it instead of going kiting. I said I guess I'll just have to take it kiting in one of those backpack baby carryers then!

We bought Sonita (15 months old) her first kite a week ago as she had made such a fuss over daddy going kiting and carrying kiting magazines all around the house pointing to every picture going "dadda"

It is a pink one line Octopus kite which she loves carrying around more than flying. We hope to have her out in the water kiting with Daddy as soon as she is comfortable in the water, shouldn't be too long I reckon. Time to put those water babies classes to the test

I wish my old man took me on water activities when I was little .... oh, actually he did

Good winds,

that vid looked all good to me!
as a father i can tell anyone that if your child or anyone elses child for that matter is in your care then whatever activity you are exposing that child to, then your own sense of danger and awareness are doubled, tripled or more!!!!
those not there yet can ridicule, but the father in that vid should be applauded! my dad only took me fishing and shooting. bless the old ba5tard

I am with you Greenie.

My Dad taught me to swim at Tuggerah Lakes when I was about 4 Years old.

He took me out in an old carvel fishing boat and threw me overboard amongst all the jelly fish in the lake.

The biggest problem I had was getting out of the hessian bag.

Well said Greenleader,

Six months ago I witnessed a kiter down here in Melbourne with his (8 yo?) daughter on his back with her arms around his neck. The smile on her dial and the laughing was great to watch. Her Father was the only kiter out there and was a very competent kiter.

It's amazing how many people (children and adults) are afraid of water, "get the tykes out there", I say. One of my favourite early child hood memories was on my father’s shoulders whilst he was water-skiing.

I suppose you wouldn’t want too many photos of this type plastered around though, there are some ****ers out there with the "monkey see, monkey do" attitude (with no skill) that would give it ago.

i was practicing some static jumps in the shallows on the weekend . my son (7) asked for a ride ..so an afternoon of down wind body rides (on my back ) and i was the best in the world!!

Ever thrown your kids up in the air in the pool?? swung them arounnd by their arms? put them on a bike to learn how to ride ? i recall my dad just giving me a push and i was on my own !!

they say the older you get the more thoughts of life preservation kick in . I gave up having birthdays so i do't have grow up.

I would rather have the kids out there enjoying this stuff with me than being %100 safe at home playing the Play Station.

I have a Five year old who spotted a picture in last months Kitsurfing Magazine of a guy who was Kiting with a child and now thats all he wants to do, and let me tell you, I am so proud.
