I've been to Cocos, but not Fiji.

Cocos is wicked for flat water. There's a huge lagoon 8 Km wide and the tradies blow pretty much non stop. We went in August and had 13 windy days out of 14. The tides can affect when you can can't go out, so it's not unusual to go out for a heap of hours in the morning and a heap after lunch, depending on the cycle - check tide charts for the area.

No passport needed, because it's Australian, and all the grog is duty free! Visit Seabreeze.com.au Sponsors
/info/sponsors.asp to find crew that you talk to that do trips to both islands.

Cocos is a wicked place to kite & relax!

Last year in july at cocos we had 2 1/2days out of 12 sailing/kiting - real bummer.

Can happen anywhere including fiji and maui over the same months -maui's the most consistent for reliable and strong winds over the july/august period.

Take your surf or boogie board as the waves are great - if the winds not performing to your satisfaction
