hi to the forum..
am new to the scene of kitesurfing/boarding. have surfed 13yrs, skated, snowboard, wakeboard etc but am now living in Townsville[no surf except cyclones] . this kitesurfing businees looks freakin awesome.
i just bought all the gear for $300 from a guy on ebay.seems like an awesome deal. pick up the gear tomorrow. it's a 2004 nash aero 2 12m, with waist harness, bar ,lines, and board, missing a fin but who cares.
So. i've googled a bit and it seems that this kite will be a bit tricky to learn on, cause it's a c kite. i don't really know cause i haven't even flown anything yet.I also just bought a 2m foil kite for 20bucks off ebay to learn at least how a kite behaves and also fun for the mrs and kid etc. Obviously i will be getting some lessons, so do you guys reckon the set up will be right or should i start thinking about getting a waroo or something that sounds more user friendly.
i usually pick up sports quick and am not really worried about my personal safety so if i can get away with the c kite i'd be stoked.
anyway, i'm stoked on this sport and i haven't even done it yet..lol
it's gotta hurt less than skateboarding....

G'day Speedthrills,

Contact the boys from "in the Loop Kiteboarding" They are in Townsville and usually teach a bit downwind of the Pallarenda beach location. The guys will be able to help you out by assessing your gear, giving you lessons, and introducing you to the locals.

Good luck with it and keep the public safe.

Good winds,

haha, thanks for the safety tips, will be posting up hazard signs and getting all observers to sign personal injury waivers...
fortunately there's heaps of space at the beach and also there's a few other beaches that i know of that no one goes to, 4wd access only.
i'm stoked like i'm a grom again, just came back from the beach watching a few keters and windsurfers , very choppy though but they got some nice air...looks so easy..lol
like when you watch an awesome skater do a big smooth air out of a bowl, looks so easy..

Have lessons, fly your foil as much as poss before heading out on water, so much so that you can fly it with your eyes shut, so you can feel where the kite is without looking at it. Its not so much the doing it its knowing what to do if it all goes wrong, good luck be safe and know your limits.

thanks nickloop. that;s pretty much what i plan to do. i'm thinking of putting in heaps of time on the trainer, and maybe go in the water with it?, drag me a bit etc. at least i can practice at the park with the trainer. i'm hoping that in about 6mths or so i will be realisticaly doing controlled carves, basic airs, speed runs. is this a fair estimate? i have no idea how long the learning process is. i am really not concerned about my board skills, just the kite control.
