I am putting together a proposal to dedicate a beach somewhere on the Broadwater Goldcoast for kite surfers. This will hopefully allow the erection of warning signs and help protect the general public from accidents (falling kites) and help protect us from possible council bans. It will also allow us to clear trees(maybe) and do some beach nourishment. I welcome any suggestions on the best spot avialable.

I will need to address issues such as carparking, space for kite layout and stretch of water avialable.

There is a move to ban jet skies and ski boats along a significant portion of the broadwater (closing the boat ramps) including west of wave break island.(the noise polution is out of control) It is looking like it might actually happen. Now is the perfect time to make a grab at some realistate and become official. It makes a great spectator sport and it fits the GoldCoast image. I am pretty sure the councillors will like it. (or more importantly not hate it).


Due to a strong connection within Council we now have a very good oportunity to make this happen, but it will need input from the users so get on board and lets see what we can get!!!

Yea thats the biggest problem people flying with out lessons and no regard for bystanders. Could spell doom for us if someone gets hit.

At the moment, the end of smith street is ideal for windsurfers and bad for kiters because of the groin making landing and launching dangerous, especially for beginners. This area could be dedicated to windsurfers, it just takes a letter to the local councillor. And this request will eventually land on the desk of 'our little friend' for assessment.

Len fox park is the current kite boarding spot and on a weekend it gets up to 10 or 12 but the numbers is growing. At high tide launching is hard and there is not enough room. I was hopping for other suggestions, maybe better ideas.

It is hard for the windsurfers around kiters at len fox park cause alot of us are still learning and with kites falling out of sky and all that line you can imagine the potential inconvience. Also as the tide goes out it get very shallow in spots. Still some windsurfers get down our way and it is no drama. In fact riding with windsurfers is better cause you can always tell what they are doin and you can see there line of travel. I am afraid it is the kiters that present the problem.

We get alot of audience and some people are even using the small take off landing beach for the kids to play on. The wind tends to be a bit gusty compared to surf side but a ne or se can supply the goods. The parking is not to bad but we have tree proximity that needs to changed.

I think with some strict rules to be followed by kiters and some adjustments made to the area it could be a continued to be used as a perfect learners beach for kiters. However if a flier has had no instruction it could be quite dangerous and we have had some very close calls and one very bad mauling.

There are other potential sites like Lands end Shear water. The strectch between these 2 areas has potential if some carparking was organised.

You really need SE or NE for a good show. Anything else gets very gusty.

yea i agree. I have been looking at behind wave break myself and will check it when the se change comes through. Even with extra parking the road is so close to the take off/ landing area. Len fox park is still ahead on points i think.
