Is that a joke, I'm not up at 6am checking the charts for no reason. Some of us hang out all year for the winter fronts. It's the only time we get any swell in WA I'm having breaky and out there for as long as my body can handle today.

Still thinking what I'll tell the boss when I ring him from the beach.

yep I reckon the fronts are the best fun of the year - good winds especially before the front and swell too boot

I just got back 25 -30kts onshore, heaps of swell (more like wind waves actually) was havin a ball ,until I dropped my kite between sets at Mullaloo Point . Thought about releasing it but thought I could relaunch in time, kite was on its tip half a second from taking off when a wave hit me and slackened the lines and dropped the kite right in front of six foot of white water which of course chewed it up and spat out the pieces.
I love frontal winds and swell but you have to be alert at all times, stuffed if I know why the kite suddenly decided to fall out of the sky. Although it was gusty it had been flying ok but I had gone right in close on a wave down near the rocks at the point and the kite seemed to hit some real turbulence and it went from about 25kts to 0 for just a few seconds, thats all it took...... Bugger.... perhaps it was karma for having a day off work to go kiting .

I have asked this question and no one answered me.
I know that the wind direction should be parallel with the shore line. (right?)
and I don't know which beach you are going on a W wind!

Please give me an idea.

Cheers
Alex

Nah mate, just some aspect on-shore in case you break down... In perth i assume, on a westerly, go to any of the ocean beaches and you can kite... Does that help?

Woodies Each beach is cross shore on a Westerly.

Also Woodies South beach but be very cautious as the break water is a very hard object directly down wind.

X shore is ideal for learners, on shore requires you to be at a stage that you are confident in your ability to handle real ****ty conditions and over come the waves.

onshore is perfectly possible for the experienced rider, today was pretty much dead on shore. I was riding from duchies to cables in one beat and then reaching back with out much fuss but it did turn a bit more south at one point. There where a handful of others doing the same.
If i saw learner trying to go out today I would try persuade them out of it

Yeah, one stuffup and it can cost, I saw Ryland put his kite into a wave today. I was a bit rusty when I first hopped in the water and found instinct kiting was getting me out of some more close calls than I'd want it to. I'd rather avoid those moments altogether. Got one smack in the head this arvo by a dumper I didn't quite judge correctly. It was good fun though, caught a couple of nice little waves.

Like crazzzy says, if you know you can do it, you can. If you think you can do it, there's a possiblity that you shouldn't.

I love direct onshore in the waves, its great fun trying to get out beyond the break, having to dodge the waves and if you lose your board it gets washed back in and you have to start again.

My only problem is actually coming back in when the waves are huge, because as we all know its pretty impossible to come in directly facing downwind, so inevitably you end up being chased by big froth monsters... oh the excitement... I want wind

Nah just wondering if it was like here in our winter on shore southerlies where the 40 plus kiters you see at nobbies in summer seem to be hibernating somewhere .Diehards only! but it can be rewarding after a month of sh#te and a summer that wasn't .

Checked out Scarb today and there was a couple of kiters on a 6 and a 7 meters kites.
I looked further to the right and saw this guy flying a 14 meter
That is being very, very, very keen
He was powered to the max and seemed pretty happy when i landed his kite

It was his only kite, we had a long discussion about the appropriateness of putting it up before he finally decided to try it. Once I launched him I went and put my gear in the car, from the carpark I saw he only lasted a couple of tacks before he put it down.

My point exactly,i had a chat with him after he landed his kite and he seem like a good bloke.

Just impressed that someone could go on the beach, see people kiting with a 6 meter kite then decide to launch a 14 meter kite

I reckon, you could have offered me $100 box to hook up to that kite for 5 mn and i wouldn't have taken it

I spose the Estuary (Dawesville cut area) on the left bank if heading south would be good this time of year.

I saw Rob Gannon's School teaching or just having a ball out there on a big westerly just around the end of summer... Launching on grass looked really awkward. and You'd probably want to wear booties otherwise a crab might take a nip at ya if your stalled...I hate crabs nipping me, i have crab-o-phobia ever since Childhood scoop netting with thongs...
