Yeah it can be done. I have done Ellis beach to Wangetti (about half way) and another couple of times I have done Wangetti to Port and have done Yule Point to Port.

The headlands around Cairns to Wangetti create wind shadows and at times you will find yourself at least 500m from shore to stay in wind. Last time I did it it was blowing 25 knots and being that far out in open sloppy water wasn't alot of fun, especially when you want to hit the small waves/slop breaking close to shore

Wangetti to Port is alot better run.

Seriously though it can be done quite easily, a couple of stops along the way maybe? My only concern about that area of the coast is the inconsistency of the winds, you know grovelling around in 15 knots (or less) is not my idea of fun.

Start at Ellis beach, finish at 4 Mile?

sound great, all we have to do is pick a date....
we should have a bbq and beers after (ill bring the snags as im the butcher)
and if any one wants to stay in port i have a big back yard and a few tents.
