In retrospect to my initial opinion about leashes, I would like to apologise to those of you who explained to me that they were a bad idea in every sence of the word.

I am still in the early stages... but as of yesterday, ceromoniously removed my piece of crap retractable leash in favour of the more commonly adopted technique of board recovery through body dragging.

A post of mine not too long ago...
What's with the board leash having such a bad wrap... If you're wearing a helmet, the worst you'll get is a few battle scars.

Being a newbie... it enables me more time practicing and less time recovering the board. Not much different to a surfboard really.

And in my case... the damage caused by a flying missile of a board is negligable when I consider the damage that would be sustained to my body after my wife discovers that I have lost another board.

Board recovery by body dragging is all well and good... but what if you can't see the damn thing?

I know this topic has perhaps been done to death, but I just wanted to share my experiences with newbies (like myself) who are considering or already ride with a leash...

Lost my brand new Airush switch because the board submarined and snapped the metal clip at the board end of the leash... because I took it for granted that the board was always going to be found at the end of the leash, by the time I sorted out the kite, relaunched...and discovered it missing, I had absolutly no idea where it was.... hence... board gone.

I was so paranoid about losing my second board, I replaced the clip with a carabina from bunnings and continued using the leash (I know.. I know). In exactly the same fashion, the leash snapped at another point but spotted the board and body dragged to it...

After little deliberation, casting my mind back to many bruises sustained and clubbings on the helmet by airborne board, I savagley removed the device from my harness in such a way that it shall never operate again.

I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed... but I worked this out for myself in the end!

Cheers.....the converted
