Its because the land heats faster then the ocean. This creates updrafts and/or lower air density compared to air over ocean. Then cool more dense air moves towards lower density hot air over land. Hey presto Sea Breeze! The opposite happens in the morning when air over land cools faster then air over water during the night................I think...

I dont think anyone is getting any wind - the season has been ** so far....next few days forecast look good though. but the BOM couldnt forecast to save themselves.

Typically the seabreeze is strongest where the land heats up the most - In Melb, this is St Kilda as the city generates a lot of heat - asphalt, cars, lots of reflective glass etc etc

ummmmm, are we talking about the same melbourne!? i got 6 days on the water straight recently (in the last 10 days) had to pack it in by early afternoon as the wind had kept me out there for a good 5 hours on a couple of days, all up in the last 10 days at least 7 have been kiteable, with the next 4 days predicted as perfect for kiting! what more do you want!

booman what do you ride? i'm always at brighton beach if the wind is on (almost always actually, did a couple of days work this week which is a rare event.)

It always seems that when I have time off to kite it doesnt blow and when I havent it does. Only one thing remains consistent - the inability of the BOM to predict anything short of the sun coming up "sometime in the morning".

If you have been getting that much kiting - more power to you.
