I went there in Oct a few years back and wouldn't recommend it, the reason it is called "The Coral Coast" is due to the coral shelf that goes out about 400m from the shore forming a nice shallow lagoon. But it is very sharp coral that will cut up you/kite/board if you stuff up.
There is meant to be good surfing at the sand dunes about 20mins away, so may be able to kite there if there is some wind, but I don't think the outrigger is that kitable.

Yeah, you can kite at the mouth of the Sigatoka River (also surf break) but the rigging area is a treasure trove of driftwood and cow pats! I have kited inside the river mouth in some pretty appalling conditions and only on high tide - mega loads of same driftwood/trees half buried in the sand. Bit tricky to find but coming from Nadi you turn off the Queens Road where there is a sign for "Club Masa" just past the sandunes visitor area. Drive down thru the paddocks/cane etc until you get to a little village and a gate sotps you from going further...the locals will either run you out to the river mouth in a boat for a few bucks or you can walk half hour...hot sand! Hope this helps!

By the way "Club Masa" aint much of a club anymore - closed down, run down basic surf resort...
