zanzibar in july it is then! (yep, she has already found the cheapest/flatest/sandiest bottomest lagoonest/warmest place mentioned on the internet to do her 'learning week').

Hey Craggers,

Been to Zanzibar last October at the end of a 4 week safari in East Africa,
Was pretty awesome place to kite but didn't get too much wind then as weas end of the season. I think July is start of Season so should be good then.

If you are going just to kite, I'd be looking at somewhere like Aitutaki in Cook Islands though.

If you need more info on where to stay etc let me know.

Ozoned:

our holidays have always been:

1 week looking at orangutans/crocodiles/chimpanzees/wombats/etc etc etc (for her).
1 week in the salt water (for him).

tanzania gets a tick for chimps (her), and a tick for beautiful lagoon kiting (me).

it was after seeing pics of huge wide open waist deep aqua water reef fringed lagoons that she first said 'see, if thats what it was like, then i would have a go at this kiting'.

and so the ball started rolling...

cheers for the tips though.

When I first met my wife I was stoked that she wanted to learn how to windsurf with me rather than bitch that I was always at the beach....

18 years later we have had 4 trips windsurfing and kiting together in Maui and countless other similar holidays, we have bought a house by the beach and she sends me texts at work when she sees a kite in the air....while she no longer kites or windsurfs she understands the buzz that we all get.

Life is good!!

... exactly, every trip away is kiting trip, only down side now is how can we get more trips away. We don't have to do the touristy things when the winds up 'cause we've both been waiting for the wind to come in and if its been too long between sessions, sneak off for a quick one to relieve the stress, win win!

cheers,

Robbie.

p.s. Down side, just yesterday, she took my 14m out while the wind was lower, then the wind picked up, but she stayed out while I paced up and down waiting, when her 12m would have been fine.

... actually I did but my son took the 12 and left his 7 on the beach, so I had to get him in first to then get her in, so I could go out! There was a silver lining, the tide came up and waves really jacked up so it turned out waiting was a good thing in the end,,, worked out,,,this time!!

It'd be great if my non kiting boyfriend was keen to try it.....on the other hand it's nice to have someone to take photos and help carry all of my kites after a session

... and the good thing about teaching your own kids, you can yell at them and they can't answer back with a "f#ck you" as can happen when you teach your missus (or boyfriend little o).

Teaching partners is rough in the beginning but worth it in the end, it'll certainly test your patience!

cheers,

Robbie.

ps ha ha Tone, the macrame was nothing, it was the mouthful I got when I took my kite back that was rough [}:)]

women have a domestic brain and are much happier back at the nest baking and tending to the childeren. they may protest when they are younger but this is just some misguided ideal they get from daytime television.

Dude, my wife is 45 ans still not realised this, what's gone wrong?

ok if you are flat water kiter ..be prepared for some long swims/rescues and some tears if you like the waves......

What a load of crap, give the girls a little more credit than that. my missus comes on down winders all the time and I have not had to spend time resetting lines ever as she hasn't ditched the kite. My other mates, well they get smashed every sesh.

maybe they pushing harder, but having a missus that kites when you want to is heaps better than having a pain in the arse that makes doing the thing you love harder.

wasn't about male or female.. i don't know too many kiters that have learn't in the ocean without crashing...standard procedure for most kiting lessons is in flat water ..anyone that learns in the ocean without ever crashing is an absolute champ...i don't know how many hours/beers/cartons i spent untangling birds nests after crashing in the ocean and swimming like grant hackett!! you're one lucky fella bobjaan

Hey Bobjaan cheers for the credit but if truth be know I have had my fair share of kite ditches, long walk of shames and birds nests

and you have come to my rescue a few times like a knight in white boardies

I can totally relate to Puetz comment about partner hogging the kite size you want!!!!! wasn't so bad when i started out on c kites, if I hung on the wind and waves unleashed a whole can of whooop ass on me, but now the kites got such big wind range once im on the water there is no coming back!!! Sorry Bobjaan gotta pick your size right first time! [}:)]

Just two more comments:

1.. pls those guys out there in WA if ya got a lovey sporty lady at home please get them fired up and on the water, I love hanging out with the guys aswell but seriously need some balance in our little tribe...

and lastly

2. CAUTION - teaching your partner - male or female in my experience not a great idea...I really not sure why I feel ok losing my 'balls' in front of my partner and telling him very politely of course...to "go put a rather large object where the sun doesn't shine and find ya own way home" yet in front of the "lovely tanned and fit South American kite instructor" I am a model student!!!!!

Just joshing Bobjaan...stoked to have had ya as my teacher and even more stoked we get to run around like idiots doing the sports we love
