I have got a new Cabrinha harness, seems pretty good so far, no complaints. Just try loads on to see which fits you best.

Cab harnesses are really comfortable, however mine didn't last a bloody season. So I'm also in the market for a new. What's a good surf harness that is well padded (I have tried the Mystic and it rubbed my hips raw after 10 mins).

The North Styler probably fits the bill for your criteria, but the Mystic, Pat Love and 09 Dakine Pyro are worth a try too.

If you can make it to a store it's worth hanging off as many as you can. Ideally you will want between 1 and 2" of web strap between the spreader bar and the anchor point of your harness for it to be the correct size.

unfortunatly i would love to recommend the Mystic Darkrider. But i really cant. felt hell good in the shop but take it out for a few sessions and you get this.

3mm deep welts to the hip.

Emailed Mystic, no reply.
$200 for red raw hips. Beauty.

Dont let this push you away from the Mystic harnesses though. Just me I guess.

i get the same rubbing or me with the mystic harnesses, i have a cabrinha 08 harness which has back molding this has stayed stiff but comfortable and doesn't slide up to you arm pits, you find with the earlier modlels such as the 06 & 07 ones go a bit flimsy after a while, the mystic is good after its a bit worn if you can deal with the pain for a while.

maybe putting them through the wash could loosen the harness up a bit would work, any one tried this?

any ideas?

I had that chaff all last season. One day i got sand underneath, and it just didn't get a chance to heal
Just go try all the harnesses on at your shop. May the best fit win.

wear a tshirt over ur rashie and under ur harnie stops the chafe completely.. i think most harneses have that problem..

had a naish diamond, best harness ever but had that problem when it was new.

LF Luxury same problem until worn in.

Mystic warrior a mate had same problem until worn in.

I have a Flying Objects Flight Control harness. It is really comfortable. It has a thick piece of neoprene padding in the centre of the back that feels like that gel stuff you get in nice bike seats. And the bar is padded too.

My waist slips up as well. If I tighten it to a point where it doesn't, it digs in so much that I can't kite longer than half an hour. I used to kite with Nitrous shorts and now I'm moving back although this time around I'm going to test the LF boardshorts. Waist just do not go with some builds, mine is one of them.

Are the people whining about hip chafing the same people who make fun of people wearing wetties in summer?

I wear my wettie in summer. Not because i'm a cold sook, but because i dont get ANY chafing if i have my wettie on.

And yes, mine is a mystic. I like it though.

i was hoping for the 'yeah it just needs to be worn in' thing, but now my harness is like 1.5 seasons old and i dont think it well ever 'wear in', so to speak.

and the bad thing is the chafe takes soooooo long to heal. but when it finally does, one decent session and its back again. rashies donts work, europlast rubs and falls off. New harness for me i guess = broke.

just purchased a flying objects flight control waist harness from Darren at AKS. Had my first session with it today. No riding up and super comfortable. Could not be happier.

I really like the North Ruler-having said that, mine is about 3 or 4 years old (so no idea how it compares to the 'current' model) and it is totally on its last legs so need a new harness too.

I like a harness that slides really well from side to side for waveriding. I wear two rashies or a T and a rashie to get that-stops the chaffing too-so long as the rashie/T is pulled down far enough.
