hey mate, i have been there twice, once in july and once in september.

there are two types of wind, the levante which blows from 25 to 45+ knots. take your smallest kite. i found the best places for the levante are canos de meca for waves and bologna for flat water. you will need a car to get to both.
the poinente(?) wind is more like a 15-20 knot seabreeze and blows cross on at the main beach (los lances) and up the road a bit at val de vaqueros.
i think the big swells come in over winter but i scored some head high stuff at canos de meca.

there are literally hundreds of kite shops and thousands of kiters in town. because there are so many, nobody really looks out for anyone else. having said that you will meet crew there who are awesome.

not sure about top end accomodation, but there is a great hostel a couple of kms out of town called otb. its run by kiters and you can walk to los lances with your gear. both times i stayed it was full of the hottest italian and spanish women i have ever seen.

hope this helps.

Hi guys, live in Uk go to tarifa every year. Sept is great warm, but sea still cold as its the Atlantic, still need shortie, Great beach, head out of town for best kiting, wind is weird,as you move west along beach by as little as 1km wind increases so if no wind where you are take trip a little way up beach.Local Spainish riders give way to no one they think they own the beach, will kite straight at you till you move. we stay at hotel Cordinez opposite Dos mares which is on the beach, so we are across road from beach.Cost approx 70 euros per night for twin room, per room. B&B nice an clean, White sheets not off white. Tarifa town is great plenty of bars few clubs all kiters/ windsurfers so no trouble just good atmosphere. Check out Beach on google earth, from Tarifa look at beach from Tarifa, scroll west untill beach swings out to sea,Valdevaqueros, that corner is great, good waves. great bar for food and beer. But does get busy at weekends with locals. Gear in town is BLOODY expensive, Bull kites do good repairs, you can hire kit on beach, but they will not insure it ,you break it you buy it. If you park in town leave no kit on show, locals WILL nick it. But wander around old town through allyways and there are hundreds of small bars and resturants. Best place to park at Valdevaqueos is follow road west from Tarifa town past Hurricane hotel and opposite Fun hotel is metal arch on dusty track go down this track to park, but get there early and beware locals will just block you in. Have a great trip, im going in June then out to Oz in October. Staying in Maloolaba near Brisbane. Been looking at kite locations there, Noosa looks good or Maroochydoor( think thats how you spell them) Any advice? Anyone
