Hey, sorry guys, I know this topic has been flying around a fair bit lately, as winter slowly kicks in, but, being in the middle of a brain meltdown, I've just put down 2 weeks off (first 2 weeks of May). I'm super undecided on what to do/ where to go...
Finances not looking too flash, it's coming down to staying on the island or taking a last minute flight ticket to God knows where... If the latter, I'm not too sure where to aim (it's transition of season everywhere, bugger).... and staying in Australia, I'm not quite certain where to go either... Queensland should be sort of OK.... But not too sure WHERE exactly (Queensland is only twice the size of my home country...)....
I badly need some new landscapes and some heavy partying (haven't done that since Mambo!!) so sort of checking where the happy cheeky crew is...
I have been trying to think (it's been rather painful) of something fun but it seems that my brain cells aren't functioning properly (not that they do in general, it's just a bit worse right now...), so I need some inspiration.....
Ideas?
Ideas????
(don't suggest lobotomy, I've already considered it!)
THX!

Port Douglas. Plenty to do if there's no wind.

What time of the Month of May are you going?

You can get lots of great cheap deal flights with pacific blue....but if money is tight and if I'm correct in assuming you would prefer warm weather to cold, then you're better off going up to QLD to Mackay and Port Douglas as the others suggested and you can have yourself a road trip adventure seeking spots out. I'll ask around for you on more specific areas...am sure I can get a list going for you!

Check out the kitepower website and go to the news section, scroll to the bottom and click on East Coast Roadie 2005. This was Ben & Gaby's trip from Sydney to above Cairns kiting along the way, some useful info in there which might help you make a decision.

Let me know if you do go up the coast as I'll hook you up with a few people on the way if you so desire.

HH sounds good...
Pop by mine for vodka whenever the sun is down.... (make that early though as I always seem to pass out at the 3d drink...)
Mackay sounds good for a change (I did Port Douglas for the past 2 winters)...
Any particular place to check out? And am I better off renting a car or are public transportation sort of OK?
Thanks for your help Caelah.... Hook me up for sure especially if they're dark and tall...
Gosh haven't seen you in ages either.... Shall we do our little saturday morning routine again tomorrow?

I think now is too early for port douglas, but 4 miles beach is a gem.... Nice steady SE wind, but it really starts only in June.... July is fabulous (2 years in a row with wind daily.... (but my break is too early this year, I don't think there's much happening at the moment))
Hamilton island seems to be the go right now (I just had to send a kite out to my boss, so I take it it's windy!)

Hamo. Where's he kiting there? Is he going to Whitehaven?

I've been to hamo for race week and from what I can remember which isn't a lot other then all the girls in the buggy screaming any time i went around a corner (mmm girls in the buggy). There's no beach to kite off there. Well maybe at the end of the runway it's doable.

Holy cow....
Good point!!! It does sort of speak for itself.....
mmm.... Sold....
PS: Crazy canuk? I totally believe you if you say there are no beaches to kite off there... I may have to mention that the kite was sent to a windsurfer who sometimes kite... So what I understood of the request wasn't necessarely that it was kitable.... Rather that it was windy and that a kite was easier to send out than a windsurfing rig....

Fly into Mackay, Hire a car and and start the road trip from there and head north.
Mackay - Bowen - Alva - Townsville - Lucinda - Cairns - Port Douglas.

Drop into Adrenalin Rush Sports and Ill send you out with the crew to show you exactly what Mackay has to offer. I am dissapointed everytime I ride in a different location in Australia as it doesnt compare to my home town Mackay. Ha, everyone propably says that.

Ha ha. Nah Tony, you're missing the point here...
The reality of gravity is that what goes up eventually has to come down (Ever noticed?...)... We all know that the way up is always fine: it's the landing that hurts...
And when you're in the middle of it, emotional gravity perfectly sucks...
So trust me on this, what EM needs is some space and some wind! -And a hug too, so what???-
I've never been to Mackay so I might follow Joe and Lachlan's advise...
Any tip on cheap rental cars/van and accomodation in Mackay?
Only thing.... there are no waves in Mackay, are there?
Thanks heaps for all your replies!

Imagine in how much trouble I'd be if I was posting on a surfing forum, hey!

if it was a forum for gold coast surfers then it would be no problem what-so-ever...

he/she could just ask one of the other 499 guys at their local break what it meant......
