I'm a novice, was blasting along yesterday in very gusty Nly winds, got headed by a big gust about 30 degrees off angle that almost delivered me body-and-kite into the sand/road/houses beyond. I'm exaggerating, but it freaked me out... I couldn't figure out how to depower the sucker. At least on a windsurfer you can drop the sail or let it luff.

Any tips on making life safer? Has anyone tried those quick-release chicken loops? Do we wait for summer when this doesn't matter?

what???!!! are you saying that a quick-release chicken loop doesnt matter in summer???
if you havnt got one dont go out kitesurfing again until you do get one.
as you say with a pole board at least you can just drop the rig well if you have a quick release you can just drop your kite.
everyone should have a quick release and a leash because there is no valid reason not to and it makes our sport safe

Then when you get a quick release you got to know how to use it blindfolded, you got to know how to use it fully powered up , powered down : Then if you are getting dragged on your back towards a truck thats coming down the road you have to know how to hit that ****er so you dump the power in your kite, otherwise it's going to dump it's power somewhere else !!!

ohhhhhh

You guys need to get a life.
I'm going to take up kitesurfing like those young blokes down at the river and relive my youth. I'm going to buy the latest and greatest stuff and do huge jumps to impress everyone and to show how young I am and how much better than windsurfers I am. Then I'm going to get on internet and write up some dribble about how extreme it is. Then I'm going to research the latest and greatest bow kite so that I don't need to edge anymore and it'll do all the tricks for me but I'm not going to unhook. Then I'm going to comment about a style of kiting that I have never tried but I'm going to make sure everyone hears what I have to say because that's the most important thing...I'm young again. Man am I hardcore or what?! FULLY SICK KALABUNGA DUDE.

Seeya on the flipside duuuuudes.

Good on you, fence, what I don't understand: is anyone stopping you to do it?
And why on earth, to make this announcement you had to dig old posts?
Any way, if you wanted to attract attention, you got it

No no, there's no such thing as too old.

But there is such a thing as bringing unnecessary politics into the sport that seems to be brought up by anyone fitting the aforementioned description. It never used to be like this because people who got into it first were genuinely interested, not propelled by the mainstream 'this is hardcore' crew. Whatever happened to the soul kiter? It seems they disappeared after a couple of years only to be replaced by mid-life crisis, old men etc etc.

One more point...I can't believe people are kicking up **** about me bringing up old threads. Far out, there's more to this world...if you're going to get hooked up about some bloke on an internet forum having a little fun and catching people out, then kiting is going to be ****ed pretty soon.

Lighten up coooool dudes

Hey getfunky, I remembered that TISM song properly now. It was called 'whatareya' and one of the verses that stuck in my head was:

If a yob and w**ker want a girl,
The w**ker guy will get her
Both of them are equally ugly,
But the w**ker hides it better.

Hey Pat - now I remember it. It's hard to sing unless your jocks are too tight though it's up way too high

"Greg... the stop sign" was always a fave

Seeing them at the 94(?) BDO was unreal.. Huge headwear going all the way up into the lighting scaff and bouncing around like teletubbies on acid (wasn't everyone???) 20 000 people all pissed as mongrels singing in falsettos... Makes ya proud to be ozzy!

I can remember 1st hearing TISM in 86 or 87 when I lived in Melb. Their contribution to art at the time was "Daddies in the bathroom bombing battleships"... classy

Fences - bad vibe bud... Just don't see the point matee

Can we talk about whether or not to use a kiteboard leash now. I find this amusing. Ive been on this website nearly everyday for 6 months and have never heard of fence, then he appears out of no where and unleashes all kinds of "fun" wondering when he'll go back to his hole.

fences seems to think that lots of people kite because its hardcore, I just find it a heap of fun and terribly addictive. I can't stop, help help me please.
