what have you done to all the girls? i'm lonely!
i want idears and help to get more chicks out kiting. i'm serious! i just dont understand why most of them dont get it, surely someone can help here - why dont more of your partners out there kite (assuming there are some of you out there with significant others, cant all be desperate kiters...)

hmmmm a subject that i too have pondered over a sherry myself.

With delicious examples of the male race such as Mile High, Gruiezi, Puppet, possibly azza and of course myself, why indeed are there not more females in the kiting game..??

Pretty much. I wonder what the ratio is (male to female) compared to other sports that involve WAY more pain - like snowboarding? Snowboarding is way sketchier in my opinion - and it really hurts - ice is hard. And yet there seem to be more girls dropping into the pipe at Snowpark last time I was there than there are girls out kiting (proportionally). I mean really, who would volunteer themselves for this?

www.snowparknz.com/

And yet they line up like lemmings at the top of those things.

it's amazing how often this topic has come up lately...just the other day I was asked "what can we do to...?"

Well, I've tried nearly everything! Even kiting nude. OK, maybe I should have tried that particular stunt on a warmer day, it was Melbourne after all, and still no action.

Just one thought though... Sponsorship from a chocolate manufacturer!

cadbury coloured kites? or even better, lindt! yeah

nope. what is the missing puzzle piece.

i can buy it that a lot of women are too busy to give into and follow through on a mere wish "that looks like fun, would love to give it a go". is it that they dont have support from friends? or arent confident enough to walk up to a bunch of kiters and ask some questions.
i dont get it?

that is why i am asking, what comments have you heard, what reasons to girlfriends have for giving up if they have tried it, what stops them from even having a shot? what can i bribe them with?

you poor misguided boys...Grumbling on forums ain't gonna increase the number of chick kiters.

I have plenty of theories on why there are less girls, but I don't think you really want to ponder the real reasons (as I have for the past 5 years), you'd rather complain about your lack of perve material because that is cool.

There are probably more kiter chicks than you realise, but if they're not wearing a bikini/looking sexy you don't even clock them. There were a few girls out at Wello on Saturday Merman, but you only noticed one.

Sorry think I got up too early this morning..

Morning Lynita Gusty, but well worth it on Saturday hey ... There were three chicks out I am pretty sure. Lynita, myself and another with a white helmet (I think). If the storm doesn't come through this arvo, with the 15/20 NNNNEEEEE hopefully I can get out again

Still not even tempting lol.... Boardies maybe....

Terrah... All my friends that are chicks, not one of them is even interested in kiting in the slightest. They're happy to sit and watch the guys and I, but don't want to try it out, even tho it's gr8!!! I started kiting off my own back, and without a "friend" doing it with me etc. Wwweeellllll worth it ...

Hats off to the ladies that do kite! However some reasons I have discovered why girls dont get into the sport are:
-Expense
-Multitude of gear(Harness,Wettie,Kite,Board,Helmet,)And getting it all to match colours
-Understanding the Technical aspect of the sport Kite Flying, Board skills, Wind, Tides
-Dangers- Dieing, Sharks, Blue bottles, Stingrays
-Looking fat in a seat harness
-Hair goes curly when wet
-It hurts sometimes
-Cant just do it when u want to

these are just some. Its a sport that takes a certain kind of girl to be interested in it. Its a huge challenge and a massive $$$ commitment.

I reckon some girls just dont have the tenacity to take it all on. Most girls I know that seriously kite I wouldnt want to mess with. They would quite easily biff you in a second.

Thanks to WAKSA/Kitestock, my wife gave it go and when asked about which kite she fancied, she said none. Jokingly, I asked what about the pink one (refer above) and Suszanne promply replied it was gay She elaborated that women should be designing the kite graphics/colour schemes for kite-chicks! My theory is more Kitestocks

Uber, I hope you are not being serious with some of these points. Or maybe you are and I don't have a sense humour but alot of what you said is way off, and a bit offensive.
-Expense (true, I think women have more trouble spending money on themselves/toys than guys do)
-Multitude of gear - And getting it all to match colours (whatever)
-Understanding the Technical aspect of the sport Kite Flying, Board skills, Wind, Tides (are we stupid?! some of us have brains)
-Dangers (only coz we admit our fear, plenty of guys just don't admit fear)
-Looking fat in a seat harness (yes, I care about my appearance, but only as long far as it doensn't stop me having fun)
-Hair goes curly when wet (as above)
-It hurts sometimes (not as much as other sports)
-Cant just do it when u want to (think this is equally applicable to guys and girls)

I reckon some girls just dont have the tenacity to take it all on. (neither do plenty of blokes)
Most girls I know that seriously kite I wouldnt want to mess with They would quite easily biff you in a second. (are you saying that most kiter chicks are just rough boofy blokey types??? not in my experience).

Maybe it's attitudes like this that puts girls off, entering a male dominated sport. Being the only girl at my local beach for years, conversation topics change when a female comes along if the guys are polite, or if they are not, they just continue, which is very off putting.

There are lots of reasons there aren't many girl kiters, but 2 main ones are:
1) boyfriend has tried to teach them, and not taken proper precautions, girl gets lofted and freaked out. She may want to try again, but really are scared now (so yes fear does have an impact, after a scare),
2) they don't see other girls doing it, wonder why and assume it's too hard. More chicks snowboard, coz they see chick snowboarders and realise they can do it. But this is changing - LOTS more girls are learning this last summer and they almost always say (a) they preferred to learn from a woman, coz it means if the instructor can do it, so can they; (b) they thought they'd have to be stronger to do it.

My thoughts.
Peace

I'm with Lynita on this one. There are reasons why girls don't kite as much as guys, and I think she's probably on the money.
Most of this thread is a bit of a laugh, but a couple of things are a of a worry. Does anyone really think that girls can't figure out how to fly a kite? I know guys who kite but can't do it in less than 20kts cos they can't move the kite enough to keep themselves plane-ing - not many of them but they are out there..
