Hello,
I am posting from Paris and only been to Sydney once for 3 days. My wife (windsurfer) and I with 3 year old junior are going to drive around Australia in campervan and go kiting/windsurfing for 6 weeks sometime during August-November. Where would you recommend going?
we would like safe easy windsurfing spot meaning not huge shore break with rental availability. Kiting on the same spot. Warmish water but we can wear a wetsuit. Preferably no stinging creatures in the water. We are not going to tour all of Australia because the country is too big so we are trying to figure out where we should go. Preferably a slightly remote beaches with beautiful inland scenary nearby.
Now that I have read a number of posts, let me admit I am terrified of sharks, I have never gotten over jaws and I don't think they would improve my jumps.
Thanks for any suggestions.

mate australia has 1 shark per every km of beach, we have stingers the size of a Holden Astra, crocs on every beach. But if you were lookin for a relatively safe spot with no shory then try the Zoo in W.A. Nah just kidding i dont know much but generally SE Qld has no wind in winter but north Qld should do.

mackay, nth queensland is a great spot . forget about sharks there every where and theres to many fish for them to enjoy any way . rental might be a bit x but it depends what you want , pleanty of lagoons at low to mid tide for glassed out riding waist deep, might be worth a look.

Depends a lot on when you want to go and what you want to see.
August - best bet is Far North Qld. Cairns/Port Douglas/Cooktown. Flat water, no sharks (but crocs) murky water, good wind, good beaches, rainforest and trips to the reef.
Late September/October/November. East coast - starting to get sea breezes from S. Qld to south coast NSW. Colder, lot of variety in terms of beaches, landscape, scenery, culture, OK wind but not as reliable as FNQ in August. Probably more fun for the little tacker (le enfant).
West coast September/October (November probably too hot for you to enjoy) go north of Perth (Shark bay/Exmouth). Great wind, plenty of great kiting/windsurfing spots. Beautiful coast, few people and if you travel inland (quite a) bit there are some very nice national parks. Not as much variety as east coast but better wind/beaches
Have fun
