KBV (kiteboarding victoria) but membership isn't mandatory, it just offers you the benefit of insurance if you want it. Otherwise, you can just kite, just ask any kiteboarders who are there if there are local rules (StK has some rules around kiting near the Marina)

As it gets closer to winter, its mainly northerlies so most of your kiting will be at brighton but SW can still be kited at StK. If there are any strong northerlies, make sure you get down to Rye/Rosebud for some of the best kiteboarding.

Otherwise, send me a PM when you arrive and I'll help point you in the right direction and introduce you to some locals.

There is technically an off between April and about October, but that's really when the sea breezes stop. A large portion of the kiting community don't kite because they think its too cold. In reality, frontal winds continue to blow and provided you have a full length wetsuit, you can continue kiting through winter. The winds are more gusty and you won't kite as often, but there is definitely kiting to be had.

Just get out of melbourne bayside, explore a bit and you will kite more with less crowds than the "melbourne summer" season, winter water temp a mild 13 celcius and air temp anywhere from 5 - 15+ c, probably like an irish summer !!!!!!
