The picture shows the kiter to be downwind of the windsurfer but not by much. There was a cover shot in Freesail of John Messenger in a similar position atop of a windsurfer mast at Palmy years ago.
It is not something that should really be promoted as being cool, if anything, jumping upwind or even close to a windsurfer creates possibility for an accident like the one in Safety Bay recently where a local windsurfer was taken to hospital with fairly serious injuries inflicted by a flying kiter.
Fostering good relationships with your local sailboarders will not be achieved by jumping them or spraying them. Please keep a good safe distance. IKO recommend a safe jumping distance as a clear area 30m upwind, in front and behind and 50m downwind of you. Observe these simple rules and nobody gets hurt, everyone has a great day and we all end up respecting one another.
