Gday all
Ive been kite boarding at narrabeen for 1 year now . just started to do some big lofty airs and riding some swells in.bloody loven it, so stoked , all i think about now is when the wind will be up again and boosting some airs.
Any way was thinking about heading to Vietnam and wanted to know if any body had info on kiting over there. is it worth taking my gear over.

Youll need to fly into Ho chin mi city or whatever its called in the south of vietnam and then from there its about a 2 hour bus ride....mui ne very well known kiting resort....me and a mate are actually going over there in a week or 2 to finish of the season kiting and working there, best thing aswell its dirt cheap you can live of 10-13 usd a day including accom, food and beverages, currently dont think the winds looking to flash but i know the season usually ends early april

Mui ne

You will need a visa avail from vn consulate which is $70 aus. Mui ne Is about 4 to 5 hrs by taxi from ho chi minh city depending on time of day, middle of night better. Private taxi Should cost around 50 to $80usd to get there, which isn't to serious if there are a few of you, there are cheaper ways but taxi is the most convenient after a 7 hr flight from aus. VN roads/drivers are really scary. lowest Accom is from 10 to 15 usd per night all the way up to several hundred for the top level resorts. Wind is a cross on direction and a nice beach to kite, generally sunny and warm, shorts and rashie. Best months seem to be dec, jan , feb.I have been twice in late jan and my experience is that it blows every day from around 11am. I have had a few 20knt days but seemed to have missed the 25 to 30 knot stuff that i hear talk of. Most of the time it was 12 to 15 and the locals suggest 3 weeks there to get your share of strong ne breezes. Mui ne is not a place for wave riding since it's mainly shore break conditions. The south end of the beach toward Phan tiet has some wave riding potential on a good day. If you want waves Mui ne is not really the place, contact vietnamkitesurfingtours and head out to a reef break with them, well worth the cash. If you simply want regular wind and are happy with choppy conditions then Mui ne is fine. Be prepared for a lot of inconsiderate learner tourists who have no idea of standard kiting protocols or courtesy. Many are learning and haven't the faintest idea when they should raise or lower their kite. There must be 30 kite schools and You can hire gear but I always take my own, gear is no cheaper there than in Aus. A 12 and an 8 or 9 would cover the range of conditions for me at 87 kg on a twinnie. Plenty of info on the web search with "kitesurfing mui ne" and that should get you started.

Enjoy

Cheers Chris
