Can someone explain what effect lengthening or shortening the lines has on the performance of the kite?

Shortening lines:
1-Less power generated in turns due to length of stroke
2-Not recommended in light winds due to above
3-Quicker turning of kite as more direct feel
Lengthening is the opposite of above
