did anyone watch beyond tomorrow last nite with the kite sails.it sort of looked like a hand held wind surfer that combined the best of kiting and wind surfing and could be used on any surface these guys were using ice skates and mountain boards.

does anyone know where i can find more info?

i was just thinking how easy it would be to use. im not sure if they would be any good on water because you need more pull on water than land

I've got one of those. It's an older model -- the new ones aren't cheap -- and it's great fun on a mountainboard in strong winds.

On ice you can get going in very little wind, on pavement you need a bit more... like 15 knots min, at which point you'd rather be kiting. It's a great windsurfing alternative when there's snow on the beach or its blowing at 3 am -- turns your average parking lot into a playground.

I've seen photos of guys riding these on water, but I had little success on 130cm kiteboard in very strong winds. Couldn't waterstart (angle's not right... you're holding it straight overhead). Maybe on a big windsurfboard or mal... just don't fall.

Anyway, its a clever idea, packs up relatively small and sets up quickly, needs strong, steady wind. If its too light to kite you won't get going on this unless you're on ice skates.

My thought were the same, would get real hard on the arms, especially since you hold it with arms up over head.
I've never seen any footage of people using harnesses, and versions of these things have been around for at least 10 years.
All they need is a bridle and some lines then they would have something that we might be interested in!

I noticed on the beyond tomorrow thing that one of them had a harness loop on them, just a fixed length job...

I can't see a reason why you couldn't use a harness when going along the ground and unhooking when jumping...

Don't see why you'd ride one instead of a kite tho, unless you had an area that had powerlines or other non kite friendly obstacles around...

yeah.... i could imagine 6 meter lines on a 8 meter kite, just as effective , and kiteloops would be back in!
