At that time of the year, I think Brisbane is in the middle of winter, so no wind. Your best bet if you heading to the east coast is to go north to cairns for some trade wind action.

If you want time on the water, then I think skiddz is right. North Queensland is the spot with consistant trade winds that time of year apparently. Looks like a awesome area to visit to, gonna get there some time myself.

Hi Arnaud,

My name is Helene (comme tu peux le voir je suis fran?aise mais par politesse je vais le taper en anglais) and I am from Melbourne.

Last year I went to Cairns in July and it was fantastic: 20-25 knots every day!

You should definitely go straight to Cairns and if there is a day without wind, there's the cable park!
There are some really good spots and you can find them in this forum

rent: the best if you are under 25 is probably wicked travel!

Good luck

Our school runs all year round. In the winter we do not get as much wind and often they are offshore westerly. However there are still a number of spots you can kite around Brisbane in a westerly, such as Scarborough or Clontarf on the northside, and Wellington Point on the southside. If you need gear hire (including wetsuits) visit our website for details, or just come and kite with us when you are here. Sandgate is the main beach we are based at, and its shallow, flat and no rocks. We have just recruited another IKO instructor. He is french too so if you need any other advice feel free to PM me and I'll forward on. Look forward in welcoming you in Brisbane!

Dont know about the no wind in winter bit?
Heaps of south easterlies an waves last winter with heaps of good sessions on the sunshine coast and good flat water at numerous river mouths, no waves up north of sunshine coast.

You'll be moving too fast for the sharks to catch you! Marine stinger season in the Cairns area is November to June. If you are there in September and early October you can kite without concern. Around the end of October it will be time to wear a full lycra stinger suit, as a sting from the box jellyfish is extremely painful and can kill.

Wicked camper vans are good value - there are lots of them on the road, definitely worth a try. Touch base with some of the local crew when you get here - you can do so via this forum.

Plenty! But they usually only go for Americans.

Ca Va Arnaud!

If you would like to get off the mainland and visit the last island in the south pacific before Australia, come and see Magnetic Island near Townsville!

Beautiful location, a good kite beach with a mixture of flat water and small waves, cheap accommodation right on the beach, and if there is no wind then you can snorkel, dive, bushwalk, kayak, etc. You can also bring your camper van over on a car ferry.

Townsville is also close to some very good flat-water locations.

Kite info: http://www.tevenei.com/tvm/nellybay_kite_map.htm

General Island info: www.magneticinformer.com.au/

Don't worry too much about sharks and jellyfish at that time of year, although it is winter so you might want a short arm and leg wetsuit, or at least a rash vest. Careful of crocodiles if kiting near mangroves on the mainland.
