Im going to Phuket at the end of the year. i have been reading up and the kite schools say that there is good kiteboarding beaches and great winds in Dec-Feb. anyone been there any got any info on how good it actaully is? i dont wanno take me gear over there if its not gonna be worth it.
Phuket by January has weak wind. I stayed in Cape Panwa (south) for three weeks and the was no wind in 2007 .The water can be muddy in Chalon Bay , but else where is clear. If you intend to kite take your own gear for light wind as the two main schools are run by a German guy (Rudy I think) who will take your money and make empty promises that the wind to come up by afternoon. His school gear was old school , old school square 1 & 2 boards and C shap Naish kites. He keeps the better bow kites for paying newbies.
This guys second shop is near Phuket airport. Accomodation is cheap , but again no wind.
So usually what you get in the morning , wind wise, is what you get all day. Food and transport is really cheap. Just have Plan B for no wind days.
By the way , you can travel light and buy a dozen Deisel T shirt for $100 , or even less say $90 before 12 noon ... the indians call it "Morning Price".
