hey tech heads.
i dont know a lot about computers, just learning all this stuff.
I have been editing some kitesurfing footage on my laptop ,and only have a cd burner but wish to burn to dvd so i can give to mates to play straight on their dvd players. Can I buy a dvd burner to plug straight into my laptop with a usb cable or am I best to buy a dvd player/recorder and play my edited versions on my laptop through my tv then record off that.Any info appreciated, price?other options?how to get the best proffesional looking quality play back?
sorry to call you computer nerds,i think i am turning into one myself, really enjoying this editing on the computer.
Thanx

Just buy an external DVD burner. That is the best way. It will connect via usb.

just finish off your project and export out the final thing out in the dvd ready format (ie. u need it to make 2 folders, VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS <---- the audio folder is usually empty so don't stress about that)

Then take it round to a mate's place who has a dvd burner and get them to burn those 2 folders using whatever dvd burning software they have (something like Nero will do) and your done.

Don't just copy those folders to the dvd tho - u need to select something like "Burn DVD Files" or something similar to that.

Most cheap dvd players will play vcd or video cd so just burn it as a cd. The quality of the original footage would not be much higher than VCD anyhow

or...

you could replace the cd burner in your laptop with a dvd burner. costs a little more than a desktop (5 1/4") drive but still should be in the order of $50

drop past your nearest computer store (they will overcharge u) and show them your laptop, if they are any good they will tell you what and how much, if they are stupid (like many) they will upsell you an external drive

Ianc idea is best. Burn with Nero as a VCD

If at a later date you get a dvd burner you can always upload again and reformat the file type.
